NYC homeless shelters keep 50,000 people a night

NEW YORK — More than 50,000 homeless people a night — the most in decades— are in New York City’s homeless shelters, a spike that mirrors the largest increase in overall homelessness among the nation’s cities last year, according to a report released Tuesday.

Homelessness has been a troubling aspect of life in the nation’s biggest city for decades. But it has become an escalating crisis in recent years amid a chronic shortage of affordable housing and an unemployment rate higher than state and national levels.

Wow.  I thought homelessness was only a problem under republican administrations.  I don't understand how under the leadership of President Obama we can have such a problem.  I would have thought that the $890B in stimulus spending and runaway deficit spending would have eradicated this problem by now.  I guess it's something else we can blame on the republicans.

Read the news much? House GOP says cut programs so the rich can have a bigger payday. Read all about it. Have a good time at the south pole?

Fifty thousand homeless in New York City!  I wouldn't be surprised if, someday in the near future, the homeless become political and militant, form a militia and demand that Donald Trump give them 1% of his net worth so they can all buy homes, send their kids to the best schools, pay 15% income tax, etc. etc.

Nah, they'd prefer he let them take over a couple of floor in the Trump Tower to live in.

So let me see if I understand you two rocket scientisits....we add $5 Trillion to the deficit under the Keyesian guise that for every dollar we spend we produce $1.50 in growth.  That has turnned out to be absolutely false, with reported unemployment at 7.9% and actual unemployment becuase people have stopped looking at 11-12%.  Food stamp usage is up, SSI disability claims are through the roof, homelessness is now rampant, Obama has been in the white house for 5 years, controls the Senate and had full control of both houses for the first two years and its ALL THE REPUBLICANS FAULT.

Sooner or later our Dear Leader needs to take ownership of all of these issues and do something about creating growth to raise revenue.  Regardless of what the Boston Globe and NY Times tell you, we cannot tax ourselves to prosperity.  Increasing tax revenue has to come from growth.

ABC news reported last night corporations are sitting on a mountain of cash because productivity is up while they have been cutting employees. The stock market is up. The deficit has been dropping since 2008. What else do you want?

Repubs to homeless:  Ask your family for part of their stock options.  If that doesn't work, then die under a bridge, cuz we don't care.  Your misery and deaths are the price of a free democracy.  Hoo-rah!
