WASHINGTON — Polite yet firm, Senate Republicans told President Obama on Thursday to tone down his political attacks and prod Democratic allies to support controversial changes in Medicare if he wants a compromise reducing deficits and providing stability to federal benefit programs.
Participants at a 90-minute closed-door meeting said Obama acknowledged the point without yielding ground — and noted that Republicans criticize him freely. “To quote an old Chicago politician, ‘Politics ain’t beanbag,’ ” Obama said.

It takes two to tango. The Republicans step to the microphone almost every day to sharply critcise the President. It would be nice if all the rhetoric would be toned down, not just that from the President.
Actually it takes Three to tango here, the third one being the Senate Democrats. But the news media doesn't waant you to notice that.
With the approval ratings of Congress being lower than ever he doesn't have to do much attacking to prove Congress isn't doing their job.
He should keep taking his message to the people !!
No, actually, it's his JOB, like all other presidents before him, and required by the Constitution, to first work with the Congress.
t appears paying more for gasoline and higher taxes trumps the exuberance of the equity markets as UMich Consumer Sentiment crashed in February. Printing at 71.8 on expectations of 78.0 this is the biggest miss on record based on Bloomberg data. The 71.8 level is the lowest since December 2011 as it appears that the Fed's only remaining policy tool is just not sparking that animal spirit in the real economy's anchor - the US consumer - as while current conditions did drop, it is future expectations that plunged.
Geez Begzee, If you're going to copy and paste your stuff, you have to acknowledge your sources if you want to have any credibility at all! Though I expect it's too late for that.
Latter day Republicans are like the birds with four inch gonads and two inch feet. They can't land from their dillusional flights.
Keep it up Barack! Really squeeze 'em.
Looks like the kid from Illinois is being schooled on how politics in the big leagues really works.

The Republicans NEVER get it! They still don't see that the country is behind Obama.
Republicans have been after Obama since his first day in office and they whine and complain about being criticized. What a bunch of babies. They refuse to do the people's business because Obama is not nice. Cowards one and all. The are upset because going to the people is working. Why should Obama not do it? He works for the people and so do repugs
The bloggers here are still being fooled by Obama and the news media. Obama is deliberately avoiding making any decisions that tie himself to any particular policy. He has no intention of ever signing any bipartisan bill. Just watch what he actually does, not what he says. He intends to campaign forever while pretending that he is the "Outsider: who is campaigning against those unnnamed evil forces. This method of governing worked just fine for Hugo Chavez...And he is happy to keep putting off approving the Keystone oil pipeline, perhaps waiting to see if Iran can use its oil money to build nukes.
