Senate panel backs bill to reinstate weapons ban

WASHINGTON — The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a measure on Thursday to reinstate a ban on assault weapons, the first congressional vote on the issue since the ban expired in 2004.

The vote to approve the measure — now ostensibly headed for the full Senate — went firmly along party lines; the 10 Democrats on the committee voted yes, and the eight Republicans voted no. The legislation would also limit the size of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.

This article would have been better if it had identified whether those sellers in NY were dealers or private individuals.  Many individuals in NY are trying to sell their guns that will have to be registered due to the new law.  They also passed a law that will make it illegal to sell a preban (1994) weapon, so owners of those are desperately trying to dump them.  I am not surprised that agents found three people that wanted to sell their guns and did not care someone had a restraining order.  Notice that the weapons sold were the ones targeted by the new laws.

About the statement Feinstein made:  After stating she was not a sixth grader, she went on to say that she viewed Congress's role is to create laws and it is the courts job to decide if they are legal.  I believe this is called "Throw everything against the wall and let's see what sticks."  That is not anyway to govern a country, she should be ashamed of herself, especially after stating she has studied the constitution.  Anyone following this story knows that this bill has zero chance of passing.  She is wasting everyone's time and money.  It is nothing but Kabuki theater, Feinstein style.

"My passion comes from what I have seen on the street, I cannot get out of my mind . . .  putting my fingers in a bullet hole" says Dianne.  Oh puhleeze!  Dianne is a multi millionaire with an estimated net worth between $46M and $108M.  The fact is Dianne is and never has been a "street" level person.  Her father was a nationally known surgeon.  She did discover Harvey Milk's body after he was shot, but I highly doubt that she stuck her fingers in the bullet hole.  She may have taken his pulse.  But ol' Harvey was a political assasination victim, not a victim of plain old street violence.

It would be nice if the old hippy from San Francisco would hop on the Yellow Submarine and sail off into the sunset on her way to the People's Republic.

You often talk some good sense, Hist, but your bile tends to discredit you. Not that that makes you an exception here...

Many words but no point. Ted Cruz is a clown and so are you. The first and 4th amendments have nothing to do with this issue.

Do people need assault weapons or not? I say no. The constitution does nothing but determine constitutionality. It does not make something a good or bad idea. That should stand on it's own merit. Anyone who argues for or against something based on its existance in the constitution only does so because they can make no argument based on the merit of their position.

It would be nice if you and other repugs would go to Iraq instead of sending others off to die ah.

Dianne Feinstein and those who support this bill are a national disgrace.  It's un-American, and so are they.

How so, Bob?

uranidiot

And Sen Schumber installed some last minute amendments that are completely outrageous. Shocking, I know

And of course, the Senate and the President focus attention on anticipated national gun violence while completely ignoring REAL violence going on abroad in every Muslim country. During this "Sequester" Obama is sending 20 fighter bombers to Mohammed Morsi of Egypt and giving $2 billion to the anti-Israel Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt..And Iran continues its nuke program unabated. Iran doesn't believe Obama's "I'm not bluffing" rhetoric. The fact that he has to say that, along with his defense dept cuts all say "Yes I am Bluffing".

Watching fox again huh? You are too stupid to have an opinion
