Football players found guilty in Ohio rape case

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio (AP) — Two members of the high school football team that is the pride of Steubenville were found guilty Sunday of raping a drunken 16-year-old girl in a case that bitterly divided the Rust Belt city and led to accusations of a cover-up to protect the community’s athletes.

Kudos to this girl and her family for having the guts to challenge the horrible rape-culture that obviously exists in small-town Ohio.  Hopefully this ruling will serve as a warning to future jocks/coaches to treat girls/women with a little respect - even if they are drunk!

Thank you, anonymous..  Beyond a doubt, this case would not have been brought to trial without them.  Sometimes radical actions are necessary. That is where we should be focused.... at the fact athat it took the radical actions of exposure to get justice.

I hope that the judge takes into consideration what their sentences would be in adult court, and sentences them to the maximum... until 21..... which is really only a slap on the wrist for the crime.

This verdict is a correct verdict.  Guilty.  People will debate the sentencing.  It's also the aftermath of observing how the victim is treated by her peers in person and more importantly through the use of texting, online posting, etc. that needs attention.  The mentality that bred this attitude of jock culture crudeness, superioty and percieved unrestricted license must be addressed not only in Steubenville but in most communities.  It has occurred around here as well.

Guilty of rape and they get 1 year in jail. Are you kidding me. If they were a couple of years older they would probably get 10 years or more, which they really deserve. Not much of a penalty was it!

Looks like the scu&bags are ready for college football................The sentences are a JOKE
