7 Marines die in explosion at Nevada base

Mortar is cited in blast that also injured 6 troops

HAWTHORNE, Nev. — A mortar shell explosion killed seven Marines and injured a half-dozen more during mountain warfare training in Nevada’s high desert, prompting the Pentagon to immediately halt the use of the weapons until an investigation can determine their safety, officials said Tuesday.

The explosion occurred Monday night at the Hawthorne Army Depot, a facility used by troops heading overseas, during an exercise involving the Second Marine Expeditionary Force from Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Senator Reid sent his condolences, and then tried to score some political points before the bodies were cold. (He's a jackal, you know)

NBC's Jim Miklaszewski reports: Now I can tell you, Marine Corps officials this afternoon are taking a strong exception to what Harry Reid implied. Saying that this this exercise, for example, was planned well in advance, had nothing to do with the budget cuts. There were no corners cut, and if they couldn't afford to have all the safety precautions into place, they wouldn't do the exercise.

And in fact, one Marine Corps official told us a short time ago that he considers this nothing but pure political posturing on the backs of these dead Marines.

Defective ammo!!!   Who was the manufacturer?

AP doesn't even mention Harry Reid said that the Sequester budget was to blame for "lack of training"  for the marines. Reid's speech on the Senate floor was clearly meant to score political points. By using dead Marines as props. And he expects the Liberal news media to look the other way, as the AP has done here.
