Three Mass. residents among ‘genius grant’ recipients

Three Massachusetts residents were among the 24 fellows who will each receive $625,000 over the next five years from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. They are:

 Robin Fleming, 57, Chestnut Hill. A medieval historian at Boston College who has written extensively on the lives of common people in Britain in the years after the fall of the Roman Empire.

 Dina Katabi, 42, Cambridge. A computer scientist at MIT who has worked at interfacing computer science and electrical engineering to improve the speed and security of data exchange.

 Sara Seager, 42, Cambridge. Astrophysicist at MIT creating a theoretical framework for determining the characteristics of planets outside our solar system.
