During last night’s Republican presidential primary debate, Mitt Romney blamed an obscure pre-colonial body – the Massachusetts Governor’s Council – for his failure to appoint more conservative judges when he was governor of Massachusetts.

There were only 7 active members of the Governor's Council during half of Romney's administration, because Councillor Eddie O'Brien was ill and eventually died in office.
