Iowa caucuses kick off 2012 election season

From Sioux City to Cedar Rapids, Iowans are preparing to head to caucuses and cast the first official votes of the Republican presidential nomination. Their judgments could propel one candidate closer to the nomination and force others to drop out of the race. After riveting debates, lofty speeches, gushy television ads, and countless hands shaken by the candidates, the outcome is now in the hands of voters in 1,774 precincts. The nominating contest this year has had a topsy-turvy feel to it, with different candidates rising and falling within weeks.
