ATLANTA — Rewarded with a home state win, Republican Newt Gingrich cast the presidential campaign as a contest between elites and Main Street and says that Americans are rewarding his ‘‘power of ideas.’’
Gingrich won Georgia’s primary on Tuesday as nine other states decided the GOP contender they want to face President Barack Obama’s re-election bid.
Gingrich had cast Georgia as a firewall and it gave him his first win since his last victory during Jan. 21’s South Carolina primary.
Gingrich says that elites in the GOP tried ‘‘to kill us this summer’’ but he says ‘‘we are not going to allow the elites to decide who we are going to nominate.’’
Gingrich says his campaign’s collapse during the summer didn’t end him, nor will shortcoming in the latest contests.
