Senator Scott Brown of Massachusetts made a new push for legislation that would make it illegal for people to misrepresent themselves as medal-winning military heroes. The US Supreme Court invalidated a similar law last month, saying lying about medals and other military honors was protected by the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech. But Brown said his legislation would pass muster because it criminalizes people who profit from their misrepresentations.
