Romney rejects calls to release more tax returns

Mitt Romney accused President Obama Monday of running “a campaign based on falsehood and dishonesty” and insisted he would make public only two years of tax returns, despite the urging of some in his own party to release more.

Over the weekend, some Republicans joined the Obama campaign in calling for Romney to show voters his returns from before 2010, the only year for which the presumptive Republican presidential nominee has released a complete tax return. Romney also made public an estimate for 2011 in January and has pledged to release a complete return for that year, once it is finished.

Nowhere in Willard's words do I see him denying anything that has been alleged.

President Obama wrote two autobiographies in which he fabricated pieces of his own personal history. Then he helped to craft a health insurance reform bill that is so long that Nancy Pelosi said Congress should pass it so that "we can see what's in it." Then the President invoked executive privilege to prevent Congress from learning how hundreds of guns walked across the border into Mexico. The Obama administration is OPAQUE, not truthful and forthcoming.

anyone else notice Romney's pants on fire?? oh yeah ... Obama is secretive and lying like he is a Kenyan and an affirmative action baby, the real dog whistle which has his "critics" yowling. most of the clowns emerging from the Republican Party Primary Clown Car warned about exactly what is being done by and to Romney. oh, but now, they are all after the black guy. Guess we have our answer, 4 years of answers, to the question posed early in the 2008 Dem primaries: Obama IS black enough for these guys.

This nation awaits a real leader and that is Mitt Romney. He is a job creator and that record is stellar. Obama has been printing and borrowing money , pushing futile "green " programs and basically spending this nation into a ditch. He encourages the culture of dependency and the growth of big government. Obama totally disrespects small business, our nation's greatest job creator. He actually knows less US history than the typical US HS grad (57 states!) Obama is the worst mistake that this country has made in modern political history. America simply cannot afford four more years of Obamanomics.

You've been asked before - what exactly did he fabricate? A response would be useful to bolster your claim to be a real person, not a sockpuppet.

It is difficult for Mitt to cry foul and dishonesty when he refuses to release his tax returns. It is not necessarily the refusal that hurts it is what the refusal implies to others. Mitt holds to the idea I have met the legal requirement. This of course matches up with his off shore bank accounts, I've met the legal requirement. He's right of course, but politically this boat won't float. As they say, People want to know. Mitt is going to have to give it up, whether he likes it or not.

That's not a subject of this story. It's a cheap rhetorical tactic to try to change the subject when the current one is indefensible. Whether or not Obama is honest or dishonest has nothing to do with whether Romney is honest or dishonest. I want to know what's in those tax returns. What is it that so bad he refuses to even consider releasing them. Anyone with an inquiring mind would want to know, unless they're afraid to find out.

A bunch of rhetorical blabber about Obama have nothing to do with this story. It simply indicates that you have nothing to defend Romney with save smearing somebody else. You're pathetic.

I agree with you to an extent, but we don't know what's in those returns. There could be some inflammatory stuff that I can't imagine. If there is, he's going to "tough it out." as they say. In other words, he could end all this speculation by releasing the tax records, UNLESS....

It's interesting to see the reaction of the Romney camp about the Bain story. The tone of the campaign this week is a bit reminiscent of Mr. Romney's work against Gingrich, Cain, Bachmann, et al. earlier this year. If the gloves are off, I would not bet against a core of Chicago Democratic politicians setting the lowest bar possible. L-O-L!! L-O-L!!

Sagacity is typically an attribute that others feel compelled to assign to a wise person. When someone tells you that they are wise, be wary.

How tempting to set up a troll-like handle along the lines of "Post your tax returns now" with an unfortunate photo capture of the governor and post endlessly, but that would reduce me to a caricature and laughingstock like so many of our frequent flyers here. Happily I'm better than that. But Governor Romney should release his tax returns. I hope that he doesn't, but he should. His refusal will not help him and the demands will only increase the speculation that they will reflect very badly on his suitability.
