Republicans push Romney to get it over with, release tax returns

A growing roster of Republicans is calling on Mitt Romney to release additional tax returns on the premise that the presumptive GOP presidential nominee could score political points with transparency-hungry voters and weather a few stormy news cycles about the volume and location of his wealth.

But Romney appears certain that the tempest would not subside so quickly.

As I've written previously (as Nom Anonyme), I find Team Romney's response to requests for the candidate's tax returns puzzling given Romney's "near death experience" with the matter during the Republican primary. The current brouhaha was arguably foreseeable.

I think people really need to respect the Governor's privacy on this issue, as it is apparent that there is material in those returns that he really doesn't want voters to see. That is his legal right, along with his right to set up Swiss Bank accounts and off-shore tax havens, and ship American jobs overseas. It's all legal and just how prudent Americans roll.

The Governor is a very smart Harvard grad (double degree in law and Business Administration} and if he says that the tempest would not subside after he released his returns, I believe him, because he knows a lot more about those returns than the rest of us do.

It is amazing how arrogant, petulant, and entitled Willard sounds when he gets annoyed.

He's hiding something. And it's big.

What happened to the concept that one year could just be a fluke?

Mitt should NEVER relese any more returns. The Globe's "Investigative Team" will be all over them.---------------------- MEANWHILE, how come NOBODY is asking Barack Obama to release anything related to his mysteriously SEALED past history?

It would appear the Republicans are allowing the Democrats to manage the Republican campaign.

lol.. its called false equivalence, you know, the old apples to oranges.. Why wont Rmoney release his college transcripts??

And what EXACTLY does this have to do with the fact that Obama has now attended a WORLD RECORD 100 FUNDRAISERS?-When was he last in the White House doing his JOB?----------------------------------- And why is he not doing his job as Commander in Chief?-----------------See what a REAL newspaper has to say about that. From today's WSJ. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303567704577519103629692144.html?mod=WSJ_Opinion_AboveLEFTTop

One word Mikey: valium.

If one looks very slowly one can see Mittnochio's nose growing every time he answers a question about his preciou$ tax return$. Will it turn out that he is paying a smaller percentage in taxes than the average middle class American whose vote he is courting? Also, let us all remember in 2006, 2007 and 2008 when Governor Mitt Romney was Executive in charge of running Mass...err, rather running his Presidential campaign, mostly out of state.

I don't think he will release them. As more and more evidence comes to light, it becomes clear why he won't. To the Republicans and their support of business over people, not taxing the rich and so on, be careful what you wish for. There is the funneling of Olympic money to corporations that he had an equity stake in, shadow company in Panama, money laundering in Bermuda, tax evasion through a shell corp in the Caymans, Swiss banks, active participation in Bain while at the Olympics and more news comes in every day. This guy makes Cheney and Halliburton look like angels.

President Obama faces an utter onslaught of contributions from massive money sources such as the Koch's and Sheldon Adelson. He has worked to keep up with small contributions from just folks. I applaud his fundraisers instead of the backroom deals of Romney. The President is working to keep things honest. Thanks for bringing this up and you really need to open your eyes to the moral and intellectual corruption that is the Republican party.

It would appear that the Republican party moral and intellectual corruption is catching up with them. You can only manage so much. You can't be what you are not.

And what is that "SEALED" history. You really should be a decent citizen and look at other presidents because actually, for security reasons there is a seal on their history as well. The President actually is more transparent than anyone in the past 50 years IF YOU BOTHER TO MAKE HONEST COMPARISONS. Which you haven't.

Or a constructed year for the purpose of release which is actually less upsetting than the years he hides. In fact, that one year is missing crucial documents.

It is legal. It's also legal to not vote for a man who is the first candidate with more off shore assets than on. So you can vote for the crook if you like. Most people won't.

Geoffrey: be careful who you accuse of Intellectual corruption. There's enough to go around. It has even reached the public.
