Campaigns take somber tone after shootings

Obama, Romney put criticisms on hold to pay tribute

BOW, N.H. — The mass shooting in Colorado prompted a respite in what has become a bitter presidential campaign, with President Obama and Mitt Romney muting anticipated attacks on each other Friday to instead deliver somber tributes to the victims.

“We may never understand what leads anybody to terrorize their fellow human beings like this. Such violence, such evil is senseless. It’s beyond reason,” the president said during a truncated six-minute speech in Fort Myers, Fla.

There is no "an environmentally-conscious wholesale supplier of forest products. . ." the species forest of the Great New England Forest is always harmed. Clearly, the Republicans care only about their own resources and not about the species forest which is occupied by all the other native plants, animals, fungi and soil microbes. I don't think that Republicans even know the species forest, species grassland, species desert, species sea etc. exist.

Is "with Kelly Ayotte in tow" a rspectful headline? I don't think so. Just one more example of liberal bias at the Globe.

So you subscribe in order to complain about the paper's 'liberal bias?' Why not 'vote' with your wallet on that issue? There is no lack of Republican-leaning newspapers. Granted, there are plenty of commenters at WSJ online that complain about its alleged conservative bias, but I see most of them on the free section, just as the free section (boston.com) here is overrun with zealots from both camps.

Species forest? Don't you mean forest species?

I still subscribe to the Sunday Globe so that I can get the grocery coupons. But seriously it's interesting that Globe readers like you can't stand conservative comments on this site. Do you prefer to be in a liberal echo chamber where everyone agrees that Barack Obama is a demigod and George W Bush was the latest incarnation of Lucifer? If so, that is the very definition of a closed mind.

On the contrary, I enjoy conservative comments. I might even be more conservative on some issues than you are. I also don't hesitate to call BS on partisan liberal posts, especially when they involve an attack others. All newspapers have a slant, some moreso than others. What I don't get is why you have such a problem with that yet still continue to subscribe, grocery coupons or not. Lobbing accusations of liberal bias or liberal echo chamber doesn't even give you credentials as a conservative, just as a partisan. I suppose your world is divided solely into 'us' and 'them,' where your 'conservative echo chamber' is fair and balanced while some other nutcase's 'liberal echo chamber' is evil incarnate, and vise versa those of the opposite polarity.

The headline is "Colorado shooting casts pall over presidential campaign" -- you might want to get your meds adjusted.

esfsdfsdf, the headline this morning, when we all commented, was "Mitt Romney hitting N.H., with Kelly Ayotte in tow, amid week's tour of battleground states."

Makes more sense, but underlines the silliness of the liberal bias complaint. One gets the feeling boatwrote and Ozark are desperately looking for something to be offended by.

The headline has already changed. Seems like you've hit the bottom of the barrel for things to be outraged about, though.

Glen Johnson deserves high praise for this story about two presidential candidates reacting to the horrendous movie shootings in Colorado. Johnson's inclusion of Mitt Romney's name in the story lead paragraph takes the piece out of the realm of political commentary and makes it a well-written, fair news story that portrays Barack Obama and Mitt Romney as respectful humans. Well done, Mr. Johnson.

The local newscast here in FL included commentary about the two campaigns' public statements and a notation that both had "suspended" negative advertising for the time being. What relief, since we are being bombarded by TV ads that are almost entirely negative and have been for weeks. The VERY FIRST ad to appear during the news-break was a negative ad sponsored by the Republican National Committee (one of several that fails factcheck.org). Oh, well .....
