WASHINGTON — Mitt Romney’s praise for the Israeli health care system, made near the end of his foreign trip, followed him as he returned home Tuesday, raising eyebrows because he lauded a system that has more government control than the Obama health law Romney so strenuously faults.
Romney, speaking to donors Monday, commented on how Israel — a “pretty healthy nation” — spends far less on health care than the United States does. Israel’s success in controlling costs is often attributed to the heavy role of its government and a requirement that everyone have coverage, some of the same qualities Romney condemns in the health law President Obama signed.

Does Romney speak offhandedly or not? That's the question.
Willard speaks faster than his mind can keep up with. We're used to it. Even though he is carefully managed, he's not terribly bright. But at least the Romneys are just like us. Don't we all own a horse in the dressage competition? Now I understand Mittboy's push to wrap up early primaries. If Ron Paul were still running, Willard would see people desert him en masse at the convention.
What Israel has is way more doctors per capita than the US, More doctors equals lower pay for doctors equals cheaper health care. When US Medical Schools no longer limit the supply of doctors we'll be able to benefit with less costly health care.
I am waiting for the rightwingers to explain this to me...

Is the Globe or the Democratic party paying Matt Viser's salary? Everything this person writes is a gross distortion and carries vitriol message against former governor Mitt Romney.
Bamboobob - it's more a matter of what type of doctor. In the US, the economic incentive is for doctors to become specialists at higher compensation levels. In Israel, they have a much higher ratio of primary and family doctors to specialists, and most are paid salaries instead of fee-for-service. The amazing thing is how Romney praised the results of a system that no Republican wants, and claims the Affordable Care Act creates. Does he mean that the ends justify the means, and the means is nationalized health care and universal coverage?
Romney fails the commander-in-chief test, as his trip abroad undeniably proves. He is unfit for the presidency.
Romney is a socialist! The jack-boot of single payer universal health care is his secret agenda!
That was humor, by the way.
Care to identify the "gross distortions" or even the "vitriol message?" I see neither. Do you deny Mitt said what he said?
This is hilarious. Can't wait to see the Obama ad that most certainly is being prepared right this second.

I like the Republican Party's Comic Relief Program. Will it become a new Reality TV Show? Romney Sure or Unsure?
Israel spends less per capita on health care, yet they have better outcomes. This is true in many other countries as well. The easiest thing to do is to just copy a healthcare system that is already working- but the Republicans do not like anything that the Democrats propose and vice versa. It is also better for business when healthcare isn't so tied to employment like it is over here. Our system keeps people from starting businesses because they need health insurance. Another thing that Israel does is that they subsidize healthy produce. In the US, junk that we shouldn't eat and makes us fat is subsidized. The food subsidies will have a huge impact on healthcare costs, but I don't see either party looking at this.
