TAMPA – Senator Scott Brown has a ready-made explanation for not being here early this week for the Republican National Convention: He’s serving his country in the Army National Guard.
Former lieutenant governor Kerry Healey said Sunday that the Massachusetts Republican senator was doing several days of service. She said that was preventing him from showing up at the national gathering of Republicans until Thursday – not any effort to distance himself from the more controversial factions of his own party.

How convenient for him. He gets to disassociate himself from his party with the election coming up.
Wake up, Kerry, "The great American Hero" strikes many of us as an outright fraud. Scott Brown always likes to have it both ways. Missing Tampa, he also dodges questions from big-league reporters. With Scott, there's much less there than meets the eye. Look beyond the smile and the clean, snappy fatigues. Not the brightest or most dedicated guy around. Here is one case in point. How can a guy "serve" the last 34 years in the Mass. Army National Guard and NOT ever be deployed to a war zone (First Gulf War, Bosnia, Haiti, Iraq or Afghanistan)? Rumor has it LTC Brown had George W. Bush's bad habit of skipping drills (and Army courses) and needed to actually reach out to our current governor to get the bump from major to lieutenant colonel. He should make his personnel file (his "201 file") available for scrutiny. Is he really a model patriot? The junior senator also has great plans for his future. He wants someday to be president, so he's learning to speak out of both sides of his mouth, playing all sides. For instance, he's pro-choice here and anti-abortion there. Reminds many of us of the Mitt Romney flim-flamming of years past. This way he can claim he is "reasonable". Ray Flynn, a dogmatic anti-abortion spokesman, praises Scott Brown in an authorized campaign commercial. Down deep, he'll vote with all those Southern Republicans...religiously, he's pretty much one of them, too. Politically, he'll do business with the fool from Missouri, if that clown makes it to the Senate. Is this what we need? Finally, just how bright is Scott Brown? He does NOT seem interested in meeting with the press. Oh, he's a handsome, "glad-hander", but NOT the usual sharp lawyer, talented at argumentation. How about releasing the college (Tufts) transcript and the BC Law transcript as well? He's seems to be just a former jock on the political make, one who got through school on cheer and a decent jump shot, rather than any intellectual depth. For sure, jocks like Scott stick together: Remember the last election and the help received from Curt Schilling, another opportunist? So, do we really need to re-elect a guy of such questionable qualifications? The banks and oil companies love the guy and quake at the possibility of tough questioning from Elizabeth Warren in Senate hearings. The corporations love Scott...he's quite a guy. Always looking to move up in the world.
A sitting senator running for re-election and he is skipping the Republican National Convention? Oh, that's right, when it comes to the Guard, there is no leeway, even for an event that occurs once every 4 years and is scheduled years in advance. Senator Brown will vote with them but he will not meet to participate in the platform, the one that he disagrees with? Please!
