President’s goals rely more on resolve than specifics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — President Obama’s appeal for a second term Thursday evening came wrapped in economic aspirations that struck a familiar promise, one of hope for Americans struggling to get ahead.

Voters looking for a specific and credible plan to pull America out of the economic doldrums may have been disappointed. But by rolling out a package of goals that he can champion over the final two months of the campaign, packaged in an optimistic vision, Obama tried to reset terms of the debate and shift the conversation away from Republican Mitt Romney’s stinging rebukes over the economy.

So now we have two campaigns saying 'trust me, I'll fix it' without offering at least a gameplan.

I have to disagree.  We might not know everything, but we do know the broad strokes.  The Republican game plan really, really is to follow the Bush policies of tax reductions for the rich and reducing infrastructure, education, and the social safety net.  The Democratic game plan is a balance of tax cuts for the middle class (to rev the enginve as people who have been deferring spending during the recent economic times--not replacing their old washing machine, for example--but are ready to spend if they find a little more cash on hand at the end of the month), increase taxes on the wealthy, and to slowly and steadily recover.

I welcome your disagreement, Kate, and I've always admired your candor and outspokenness. In past comments I have complained that Romney offers no specific gameplan. I do not feel President Obama has offered enough of that, either. I do think he is offering a more realistic interpretation of our challenges, but as yet I am not in either the Democratic or Republican camps.

President Obama boldly claimed he'd cut our debt in half when he was a candidate for President in 2008. Obviously that hasn't happened. He says he learns from his mistakes and it appears that is true. This time he said he'd trim 25% which is less than he's added to the debt and he said he'd do so over 10 years, not during one Presidential term. I guess that makes him older and wiser. It also lacks any accountability since he'll be long gone six years before his self imposed deadline this time.

Yikes, This story right next to the headline "Weak Jobs Report, Drop in Hiring, Workforce". Hoping for Change.

Although Obama cannot provide the leadership required of the American President, nor does he have the ability or management skill to collaborate with his political colleagues - The Obama family are not ready to move out of their Washington digs.Obama likes rubbing shoulders with the Hollywood crowd, not meetings, discussions, or negotiating with his Washington political colleagues or state Governors (except Deval Patrick).

Also, Mrs.Obama has yet to tell us she is proud of America: Although she has access to Air Force I, and has met the Queen and vacationed on the Cape, etc.etc. Remember the first lady was sulking and cranky in 2006, telling us there was nothing about America that made her proud?  I wonder if she is proud of America now, or is it the lifestlye that has invigorated her into smiley speeches?
