Democratic National Convention

President Obama paints picture of ‘two different paths for America’

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Casting this year’s election as the clearest and most important choice in a generation, President Obama called on Americans to persevere toward a future where hard choices and shared sacrifice will lead to “a better place.”

The president, speaking before 20,000 delegates and guests at Time Warner Cable Arena, repeated a recurring theme of the three-day Democratic National Convention — that the path to recovery requires pain and a helping hand, compared with what Democrats assert is a “you’re-on-your-own” philosophy endorsed by Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

In many cases the reason for unemployment isn't the President's fault but our own fault for letting fellow Americans send other Americans' jobs offshore. Joe Biden said last night that "Its never been a good idea to bet against the American people", companies like our own State Street Corp under the direction of its current CEO Jay Hooleyand its Board of Directiors are "BETTING AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE" sending thousands of US jobs offshore for their own personal and financial gain, in State Street's case the number is somewhere around 3,200 over the past three years by my count (and i worked there for 14 years) and most of these jobs came from North Quincy, and downtown Boston. The firm is currently slowly liquidating its Fund Administration division in downtown Boston and shipping off 750 Massachusetts jobs to INDIA in a Joint venture with SYNTEL corp of TROY MI. The blame for this lies with Jay Hooley, Allen Greene, the BOARD of DIRECTORS of STATE STREET CORP (STT) and Barney Frank and to a certain degree Mayor Menino and the BRA, and not with President OBAMA..

He's sending the right message for demarking a choice this election, but he really needed to have made this his inauguration speech in 2009. If Romney is elected he ought to take that into consideration.

The president has a hard act to follow the big two -- Michele and of course Bill. And there were SO many others. The Democratic convention was absolutely the GREATEST, most well orchestrated, hopeful BRILLIANT convention I have ever seen in my life and I have seen a few. I would criticize NOTHING. This is what happens when you have academic and intellectual brilliance getting the job done. They GET IT DONE because TRUTH is on their side. The Republican Party seemed like amateurs but most of all as the FACT CHECKERS proved, and YES THEY MATTER, it was a convention STEEPED in lies and Clint Eastwood was an embarrassment and a disrespectful rudeness to the office of the president. The Republicans now that they have gone to the extreme will have to emerge from the sewer. They have absolutely NOTHING because LIES will not cut it now. Now there is SO much media and they have been so sensitized to mendacious policy taking us into an Iraq War on lies, killing THOUSANDS. They lie about war, the lie abut health care, and they lied about the president ad nauseam. I am hoping that rancid Republican Party is turning into dust before our very eyes. Republicans need to form something new because the best in their party are bolting and they will be left with the stupids. That party will be DONE. It is irrelevant because it is mean, hateful and mendacious and our country to its core is NOT. That Party will Perish and that's a FACT! Wishful thinking? Maybe. But I think I am right I simply hope to live to see it!

Fact Checkers (Associated Press, The Daily Beast, The Atlantic, to name a few) claim the Democratic speeches were frequently, "flat," "vague" and "promised few specifics."

Mind you they are comparing this week to all the "hope" and "change" blabber of the 2008 Obama campaign. The Democratic convention committee provided the same smoke & mirrors with lots, & lots of old-days videos, and delegates observed a desperate Obama family who are not ready to move out of their Washington digs.

Mrs.Obama has yet to tell us she is proud of America, although she has access to Air Force I, and has met the Queen and vacationed on the Cape. Remember, the first lady sulking in 2006 telling us there was nothing about America for her to be proud of?  I wonder if she is proud of America now?

Oh yes one more thing JOBS UP 96,000 .. oh so Republican spin will say it's not a 100,000.  Give me a break it's up and employement is down from 8.3 to 8.1!  The president tells the truth....no kidding.  I have been saying that all along.  No one is perfect except for the Democratic convention.

Another empty speech. Americans want specifics not more goals when it come to fixing this economy. Obama is incapable of turning this mess around. Giving him four more years or forty more years wouldn't make a difference. I can see however by the comments here that many folks are still drinking the cool aid.

OMG - has anyone seen so many old videos of the Depression of the 30s and unemployment lines, food lines and the milling about of the unemployed?  There was a minute when I was expecting them to roll out an effigy of Ted Kennedy for the public to start singing, Kumbia.

The Democrat Convention was sheer self glory and total nonsense. The Convention organizers wanted to educate the public about the tough times their great grandparents lived through with the Great Depression, and remind us it hasn't come to that yet! But, we're getting there.

BUT - wait a minute - the collapse of the financial system of the 30s was not supposed to happen again in America and COULD NOT have happened again if not for Bill CLINTON's government which repealed the Glass-Steagall Act: A law dating back to the Great Depression that separated banking from high-risk financial speculation. The kind of high-risk financial speculation that caused the Great Depression collapse of Wall Street in the 30s, and the same type of  high-risk financial speculation that caused the 2008 financial collapse of Wall Street Bankers.

It is time for the voters to say no to a second term for Obama: America needs someone who understands banking, industry, employment creation, economic factors, and if they don't understand - they will ask for clarification. Something that is obviously not happening now.

So you think Romney/Ryan are going to _regulate_Wall Street?  We all know, thewant to dismantle any protections that are still in place!

Check out the AP's Fact Checker (not just Fox News, but even the AP here) for GROSS misleading financial and jobs predictions by Barack Obama---------------------- http://xfinity.comcast.net/articles/news-politics/20120907/US.Democrats.Fact.Check/?cid=hero_media

Question....What does "shared sacrifice" mean? Are the 47% of Americans who pay no federal income taxes sharing or sacrificing? Are the 50% who pay taxes sharing with the 50% of Americans who are receiving some form of government assistance? Just askin'

If your daughter had a part-time job and earned $5,000.00 in a year, she would have tax withheld, unless she filed forms and submitted vouchers for the income. She would, however, not have earned enough to be considered taxable, so, if she filed a return, she would get that money back, and be among the 47% of taxpayers who paid no net income tax. She would not get back the interest the government earned on that withholding, so in a sense she gave the IRS an interest-free loan. She would still also have paid payroll taxes, which go to Social Security and Medicare for her grandmother (FICA and FICAMED). Just answerin'

We do have two paths to choose from, government intervention, higher debt, higher unemployment, high food and gas prices.

Or Move out of the way and let the american people bring our country back from fiscal insanity.
