WASHINGTON — In his acceptance speech Thursday, President Obama set goals of creating 1 million new manufacturing jobs, spurring hundreds of thousands of new jobs in the energy sector, and recruiting 100,000 math and science teachers. He made similar promises again on the stump on Friday, pledging to expand job training programs to prepare 2 million community college students for the workforce.
While some of these goals are realistic in a normally expanding economy, in other cases the president has made similar promises only to be stymied by Republicans in Congress.

The step of abusing congress publically on television was unusual but if is addressing congress personally (not on television) and personably, even cordially, not an important way to seek cooperation? In most any other personal or professional circumstance that is how it is done. Who stymied who exactly? Congress is trying to lower spending and recude the debt and deficit while the President asks to spend more on huge jobs bills that congress may not see as solving the right job problems. Yet your article appears to presume the President is right and congress is the obstacle. Maybe he should get off the cameras and go sit down to sell his ideas to the legislature and even make some compromises with them to get something done. In 30 years of sales and marketing that's how I've won every sale and made every business change. Never once did I get something done but publically berating and belittling my colleagues. Just sayin'.
I have been in and out of politics for over forty years never in those years did I ever see a unanamous No from a Party as I have seen from the Republicans. I'm not speaking to the value of any of the legislation simply to the fact that one party has voted without exception in the Congress. That is not thoughtful legislating, that is Orwellian thought control. The Republicans need to find a way to think for themselves not for the leadership.
... and not for Grover Norquist!
The answer to the dilemma is simple: Vote Republicans out of Congress and get rid of the obstructionists. Then watch all these problems get solved very quickly.
really, temporary jobs are the cure, wich by the way will add another 450 billion to our debt, really good solution.
Tough to figure this newspaper really, I thought that the globe was a world class "objective" news forum. I guess I was wrong. All I hear from this publication is that the congress is blocking the ideas of Obama, well some voters put these congressmen and women into office for a reason, and when they voice their opinions they are labeled as obstructionist. Maybe they were voted into office to vote the will of the people who voted for them, why are they called obstructionist? Seems to me they are voting the will of their constituents. Democrats and liberals just can't get over the fact that people somewhere in this country just don't agree with their ideals. AND THE GLOBE TRIES TO PUSH THIS THOUGHT DOWN OUR THROATS. I can guarantee you that if Romney gets elected the Democrats will be labeled as obstructionist, and the Globe will denounce it as baloney. Gotta find a new news and opinion source.
