Senate candidates make some illuminating stumbles

LOWELL — The second debate between Senator Scott Brown and Democrat challenger Elizabeth Warren featured a lot of friction but not much new illumination, lacking a game-changing moment even if it was marked by two stumbles that illustrate lingering challenges for each candidate.

For Brown, the Republican incumbent, it came when his careful efforts to modulate his apparent dislike for Warren slipped and he asked her to stop interrupting.

The Globe writes:  "For Brown, the Republican incumbent, it came when his careful efforts to modulate his apparent dislike for Warren slipped and he asked her to stop interrupting.  “Excuse me, I’m not a student in your classroom,” he told the Harvard Law School professor."

I disagree with the analysis that this comment represents a moment when Brown lost his cool.  This comment was clearly long since canned and simply waiting for delivery.

I agree.  The whole "Professor" schtick is even more off putting than the heritage attack.  He just comes off mean and snotty.

Justice Scalia!!!

Ha, once I saw the lede of "both candidates" made illuminating stumbles I knew that this article was the work of Glen "False Equivalency" Johnson. You'd think from reading this that their stumbles were equal.  Nothing Warren said even comes close to Brown's professed affection for Scalia.  Sure, he probably just said it because it was the first name that came to mine, but seriously.

Interesting. And how would you categorize her calling out the name, Richard Lugar?

There you go again, Johnson, pandering to your Demohack fans. . . Three paragraphs about Brown's retort to Lizzy's rude interruption of his speaking. . . Rude is okay by you . . . Of course, if that had been Brown interrupting, we can imagine the scold you would wage. . .

Did you watch the debate?  Mr. Brown was talking over Ms. Warren all evening.
