Laying out 2 visions for US role in final debate

Romney, Obama clash on wars, the Mideast, China

BOCA RATON, Fla. — In their third and final presidential debate, President Obama and Mitt Romney nodded to areas of agreement, but still found plenty of ways to disagree over American policy and approaches in the Middle East, and the country’s evolving role around the world.

Obama underscored his achievements as commander in chief — ending the war in Iraq, drawing down troops in Afghanistan, and killing Osama bin Laden — to argue that he has been effective and vigilant in the war on terror.

Romney needs an atlas.  Contrary to Romney's assertion otherwise, Syria does not border Iran.  There's this little known country (Iraq) between Syria and Iran.  Syria is not Iran's route to the sea.  BTW, Iran happens to be on the Indian Ocean already.

Also, apparently Romney has a Battleship game to go with his Etch-a-Sketch.

And, was it really Romney's strategy to agree with Obama on everything, only he'd do Obama's foreign policies as a white person?

Despite the Globe's attempted "Fact Check" Barack Obama DID go on an "Apology Tour" to the Middle East, skipping Israel. The Globe purposefully did not provide a transcript of Obama's speeches there. Also Obama apologized for America when visiting France. Read Obama's actual speeches, NOT the biased Globe's analysis of them. And contrary to what Obama said (and the previous blogger said) Mitt did NOT following Obama's foreign policies. Obama just kept saying, as you would expect him to do. E.g. Mitt agrees with using sanctions on Iran. HOWEVER, he would have had used today's hard sactions 4 years ago. For most of the time, the sanctions were weak, with plenty of exceptions.

Obama's own media at the time was proudly and loudly calling it an apology tour for over a week!!  I think the most insulting thing about Democrats is that they pretend we weren't alive and sensient when this was going down and that we don't have any memory or something.  The Democrats INSULTED us again when they pretended that Obama didn't blame the video for almost a month for Libya!!  It was a MONTH ago!  We all remember Obama and his people, blaming the video, for weeks and weeks!!!  And then the Democrats and their media try to tell us we remembered it all wrong.... from just one month ago!!!  We know what he did, we know what he didn't do, and we remember being lied to!!!!!!  When you try to tell us otherwise, you INSULT us Democrats!!  Apology Tour and blame the video.  We were there.  We remember.  And you, Democrats, are pathetic liars.

Another display of right-wing cowardice by Romney. He doesn't have the spine to defend the pathetic policies he had, so he wisely decided to agree with the President's effective ones. It's worth repeating that Romney's incompetence and recklessness in foreign affairs disqualify him from the presidency, and he proved it once again tonight.

Romney came across as presidential, Obama as petulant.  Romney did score points in pointing out Obama's poor treatment of Israel, and his shameful apology tour.  None of the Globe commentariat saw anyhing here but Romney agreeing with a few things, but that is why Romney was the grown up in the room.  He was not looking to bicker as Obama was; and he wisely refused to take the bait.

Mitt was agreeable because he knows nothing about foreign policy. The trip he made to England and Israel was a disaster. Concerning the "apo;logy tour", engaging world neighbors is something Bush and Romney don't understand, they prefer to be aloof and threatening. Good luck with that.

Will the REAL Mitt Romney please stand up. I have no idea what this man will really do once he gets into the office.

Rather than show up for the debate Romney should have just sent in a life size bobble head doll... he could have used his time better doing something he is adept at... like playing Battle Ship...

The headline about the debate on Boston.com says:  "Candidates Show Similarity in Their Foreign Policy Views".  The headline on BostonGlobe.com says: "Laying Out 2 Visions for US Role in Final Debate".  Is it too much to ask The Globe for a little consistency in presenting the same news story on your two online platforms?

Um, because they're two different articles?

Romney's "big stick" policies went out with Teddy Roosevelt, and his defense policies are geared to fighting wars past and helping defense contractors, wastinf a trillion bucks. He is a total monday morning quarterback, also, citing all the the things he would have done if he was there. Many of his past comments were the opposite of his opinions last night. Not unusual for a man who reads the morning papers to decide who he'll be today.

LOL- All of a sudden Romney is into peace love and understanding. Agrees with the President on everything. He should be nominated for an Oscar for last nights performance. He's a lying sales rep. We've all seen them. He's nothing more.

Gov. Mitt Romney was presidential. Clear answers & substantive policies to answer the questions.

Obama was the same 'empty chair.' Snarky, stuttering, and repetitive with canned responses.

Mr. Scheiffer was a very good Moderator - did not choose sides - but, allowed Obama more time.  Obama needed more time. He was out of his league across the table from our former Governor.

Viser, what are you talking about, I heard no 'vision' from Obama last night.  Obama's only idea for economics is to tax the rich, as if that will do anything but cost more jobs.  It certainly won't grow the economy.  Any first-year economics major could explain why to Obama.  And Obama made clear he has not and will not be a leader on world affairs.  Obama's lack of leadership, and 'vision' allowed Al Quaeda a foothold in Libya.  Obama's lack of leadership and 'vision' allowed the Muslim Brotherhood to take over Egypt.  Obama's lack of leadership and 'vision' means we aren't influencing events in Syria.  Syria is only a proxy war for the coming war with Iran.  Romney is right: Obama has no vision for world affairs other than to attack Romney, and he has no plan for the economy other than tax the rich.  Just dumb and dangerous all the way around, no matter how you slice it.  Romney for Commander-in-Chief!!
