Late moderate turn carrying Mitt Romney far

Mitt Romney wrote an autobiography called “Turnaround” about his experience fixing the 2002 Winter Olympics, and he boasts on the campaign trail how he turned around companies in his business career.

Now, the former Massachusetts governor has managed perhaps his most significant turnaround yet. The more moderate tone and style Romney adopted in the presidential election’s closing weeks have upended the dynamics of the race, boosting his once-flagging campaign.

Mitt Romney: The quintessential "undecided".

Well if you don't like one of his positions, just wait and it will change. As far as his Olympic achievements, he applied for more government money than the previous nine olympics combined. Everything this guy says has to be scrutinized carefully as he lives in his own world. He's a happy campaigner because if he's wrong about something and recieves criticism, he just morphs his history and starts over.

Yes. He seems to be betting that a large portion of the electorate are so uninvolved and uninformed that they are just turning off the sitcoms this week to watch the news and find out who is running for president...and I don't mean "who" as in what are their positions...I mean "who" as in what are their names. Unfortunately, it's beginning to look like he may have made a good bet.

And this is the man, the unprincipled, etch-a-sketch empty suit who said he would take down FEMA.  TAKE DOWN FEMA do you get that Boston Globe and others who would support this chrlatan say-anything politician who would even have one thing good to say about this dispicable humen.

This man Will NOT...let me repeat that NOT win.  He is losing BIG time in early voting as Republicans knew he would which is why they tried their darndest to crush early voting.  BUT they could not as there is still a shred of democracy and humanity in the country that would export democracy to the world but can hardly keep it at home.

So this man would gut FEMA and what else?  Oh yes, the EPA so your children and grandchilren can be poisoned because they cannot get away from Koch  Brothers and other poisonous sewer dumpers on to properies that are the only home for some.  Unlike Koch, Romney, Rove and the rest of the perpetrators or horror they cannot travel to Switzerland to get away from the swill they dump!

Replies

Very telling nrosen that you cannot even spell human. Or despicable. Are you dressing as a Koch brother for Halloween?

This is an electorate problem not a candidate problem.  Which are you going to believe?  Is what he says behind closed doors about half of Americans?  Is it true that Corporations are people?  Do women need government to determine their fate?  Does he propose more liberty in terms of human choices or does he limit them?  Does it mean anything that his foreign affair advisors are neo-conservatives who believe making war, not just threatening it, produces long lasting peace?  Are people who have benefitted from this economy entitled to even more by lowering their taxes further while leaving the government helpless to right any damage they have caused?  A vote for Mitt Romney is not moderate, it is putting in place a rudderless self indulgent man who care little for people who struggle because of his view of economics.  No one outside his tight circle has a warm or fuzzy feeling for this man as a person no matter how much they gussy it up.

Obama was for 'Campaign Finance Control' BEFORE he was against 'campaign finance control.' (Remember Obama vs McCain?) Obama was 'AGAINST PAC CAMPAIGN funding' BEFORE Obama was for 'PAC CAMPAIGN funding.' (Remember Obama campaign rhetoric of 2008?) COME ONE FOLKS - TOO EARLY FOR YOU TO FORGET THE 2008 OBAMA PROMISES! TOO EARLY TO 4 YEARS LACKING LEADERSHIP- POOR REPORTCARD & UNFINISHED WORK!

Barack Obama, the post-partisan candidate who would bring us together if elected?  No, once elected in 2008, Barack Obama revealed his left-leaning community organizer ideology.  He has repeatedly demonized health insurance companies, Wall Street banks, "millionaires and billionaires," etc.  The supposedly centrist candidate of "hope and change" morphed into an arrogant president who likes to play golf and hang with Hollywood celebrities but who disdains hardworking Americans who "cling to their guns and Bibles."  Time for a real change, America.

Replies

Dear Mr.Ozark

What have the health insurance companies, Wall Street banks, "millionaires and billionaires," etc. done for us that would cause me to not demonize them? Please be specific. By their own admission, all that they are interested in is profits. If something good comes from this that is OK with them (maybe) but the general welfare is not their goal. They are not patriotic. If more money can be made in China and by screwing the US worker, so be it. Why are you so in awe of these folks?

Thanks

Out here in the real world, the Dow is more than double its low point shortly after Obama's inauguration, nobody in finance has been prosecuted for causing the Great Recession, and so much of Bush's actual foreign policy has been retained (as opposed to what his administration said) that Obama might as well have been a Bush Administration flunky. But he passed a bill that will help those hardworking Americans avoid going broke and dying because they can't afford healthcare, so he must be evil.

That Romney, for all of his defects, is on the verge of capturing the Presidency says as much about the inadequacy his opponent, the Great Golfer, as it does about "Mitt". The President is the apotheosis of Affirmative Action, run amok. Not only does he lack hard skills (other than reciting off a Teleprompter pretty words written by others), but, if one believes Woodward (and don't all "progressives" implicitly trust the man who brought down Nixon?), the former Community Organizer seems also to lack people skills. He has few, if any, allies in Congress. Boehner doesn't return his calls. He can't even get Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid to stop multitasking and take him off speakerphone. Above all else the overweening self-regard and arrogance of a man who has been handed every advantage in life save one: a father who forced him, as all good fathers do, to do those difficult things that a son doesn't want to do. Is it any wonder that his false Benghazi narrative continues to eat away at his Presidency?

Wow - Leo ~ where have you been? Finally come out of the Lion's den to tell it like it is!

Aw, Leo, dude, get a life! Are you really so completely dense? Obama is nothing, never done othing? Have you been AWOL tht last dozen years or so? Do you recall Bish being left a surplus by Cointon and then squandering it on two wars and tax cuts  for the rich? Were you not around to see him drive our nation's train off the rails and nearly off a cliff? Seriously?

Obama has been in office for four yeras. In that time he has reversed the economic meltdown created by Bush/Cheney, ended DADT, brought the troops home from Iraq, passed Lilly Ledbetter ACt, created a health care system 9while not perfet goes a long way to help Americans who are hurting), rescued the captain and rew from the Somali pirates, caught and kiled bin Laden (something Bush promised, bit failed - or actually refused - to do, and more.

Folks like you are anti-American. Wholly and completely. You hate people who do good and love the robber barons and warmongers. you hate anyone of color, gays and women. Your kind is ewhat has held out country back for the past few hundred years. YOU are what the good p[eople of this country fight AGAINST.

Please stop watching Fox News and listening to Rush. They're rotting your brain.

this is who he has always been - he just has been demonzed by Obama and the press

His own words make that a lie.

I remember him saying that he was "severely conservative" right before the Republcan Convention. His words. Now he's a moderate. The man is devoid of principle.

I want to thank Mr. Visser for providing such a briliant example of what is wrong with the so-called Liberal Media. He is nothing more than a stenographer. He reports without comment the GOP lie that this is "the real Mitt" and discusses Mitt's ability to express diametrically opposed posiitons on the same issues, not as a lie, but as a criticism from people who don't like Romney anyway. I regret that I have to inform Mr. Visser that when someone repeatedly says things that disagree with actual facts and with that person's previous statements, that is a lie. It is not an opinion on which reasonable people can disagree.

The shrill tone of liberals' posts tell me they can see this thing slipping away from them and they are furious. This is much less about Romney wiggling within his basic viewpoints, something Obama has done repeatedly in his political career, and much more about the fact that Romney speaking live to the American people in a televised debate can't be incorrectly quoted, paraphrased, and spun off message by the media or the Obama campaign. Those of you from Massachusetts should stop pretending you don't know this guy, he was your Governor. This is truly who he is and you know it.

Romney cut state taxes here, raised fees on everything. Then property taxes went through the roof because of cuts in state aid. He was out of state 231 days the last year in office, blowing his own horn all over the country. The legislature overode his vetoes 200 times, just dragged him along bercause he wouldn't talk to anyone. Don't tell us we don't know the guy. He's a fake.

How about taking 30 sec. 'pvalen' to summarize Obama's past 4 years?

Still no Benghazi story? Just another Romney bash? I'm old enough to remember when this thing was a newspaper.

Replies

Wht Bengahazi story? Ther IS not story. We were attacked (much of which has to do with Republicans refusing money to protect our diplomats). Obama did all anyone couls hope a president could do. What, pray tell, is YOUR Benghazi story. No, wait. I only need to watch Fox News to know what YOU think (well, actually, you don't think, but that's a story for another day).

For the longest time now, I believed that the Republican party had become mostly, and unashamedly, racist. However, although they have made hundreds of comments that would make one conclude there were many racists in the party, without a doubt, there was only inference, anecdotal evidence, and deductive reasoning to "prove" it. Now John Sununu has essentially confirmed it. And, in much the same way as he "applauded" Colin Powell for standing with Obama only because of his "race" (after previously calling the president "lazy") I would like to applaud Mr. Sununu for having the courage to make the statements he made on national television that essentially confirmed his party's racist stance, without hiding under any white hood. When I think of racism in the furture, its face will be that of John Sununu.

Sunday's NYT front page (10/28): 15 year old boy in Pittsburgh campaigning for Obama & a female school teacher in Ohio campaigning for Gov. Mitt Romney - a picture worth a thousand words.

Better a moderate (of any type) than a Marxist. Van Jones anyone?

Replies

Marxist? Obama? Where's your proof you sorry excuse for an American!

And, BTW, Romney is NOT a moederate. Frankly, no one is wuite sure what Romney is other than a pandering snake oil salesman. Fact is, Obama is the moderate, much like Clinton was. Obama is NOT liberal, and though he hasn't done everything he set out to do, he's done a damn fine job considering the obstruciton by the right. peopls as purely dense as you shouldn't even be allowed to vote. I mean, OMG X a million!

I'm soprry, but some people are simpy too dense to be allowed to vote. Anyone who votes for Romney (or any Republican for that matter) and isn't rich or a white male, is dumber than a fence post.

You get the government you vote for. And when you elect rich, whtie failures like Bush and Romney, and then you get screwed, then STOP blaming Democrats.

I've never seen an electorate as purely clueless as that in 2008. Romeya and Obama tied? Seriously? God people, stop watching Fox News! It's rotting what little brain matter you had to begin with!
