Mitt Romney had fireworks display set for election night

Things didn’t go as planned for Mitt Romney on Election Day in more ways than one.

The Republican was prepared to celebrate his election as the 45th president with an eight-minute fireworks display within view of his party at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

A fireworks display?  Did these guys have no access to unbiased polling numbers?

Now it becomes much clearer that the Romney campaign featured a congenital liar who was managed by a bunch of amateurs...the Nation dodged a bullet.

Mitt ran around saying the Nation was broke. His wealthy plutocrats had their private jets lined up at Logan. Then if he won, he'd give them a bang and a pop with fireworks? Obviously America in not broke. Just broken - in favor of the Mittsters. Why don't these overly wealthy people start creating jobs as promised by Happy Hour Boehner? They blew billions on their attempt at buying the election. Fortunately America thwarted them.

Can we still get the 8-minutes to celebrate the defeat?

Where do I send my portion?

Aww, gee, did he also plan a parade for Belmont with bells & whistles?? Or would that have been too noisy like the hearses and ambulances that Tagg was so concerned about?

Please, let's change the tone.  As Abraham Lincoln said, "With malice toward none..."

This is another example of why this insensitive clod was rejected by most Americans.   Who would have seen this fireworks display?

Why the citizens of Boston, of course.  Boston voted against Romney by almost 200,000 votes to a scant 48,000 votes.   What a ham handed way to mend fences and unite the country

I think the fireworks would have been completely appropriate. They always are for a celebration. Give me a big ole LOL!!

As others have said, I think this fireworks display would have been insensitive, like a slap in the face to the large majority in Boston and in MA, overall, who voted for President Obama.  I do not begrudge Governor Romney's right to have celebrated a victory with his supporters in a Boston hotel.  He calls MA his home, he votes here, he clearly has many supporters and friends here.  But taking it outside with an ostentatious celebration would have been inappropriate.  If MA voters had been resoundingly behind him, this celebration might have been a little more palatable.  But, given his lack of strong support in MA, and the divisiveness in this country that now needs to be addressed, it would not have been a good start. His concession speech was gracious, however, far more gracious than the unworthy reactions of some of his supporters (Trump, Rove, etc).  I would hope that, in the future, Governor Romney would avoid an association with the likes of these guys.

One of my western-state friends said it best...."Why is it that anyone from a place where Mitt has been are his strongest detractors?"

Nonsense.  If he had won he would have had every right and reason to celebrate.  I'm really quite dismayed by all the people trying to make an issue of this.  I supported Obama, but I try to avoid hypocrisy and when I see bad behavior I'm going to call it out no matter which side it comes from.  The sour grapes shown by some Republicans after the election was bad enough, but when the winners start acting like they've been victimized by a celebration that never even took place it's just repulsive.  You make us all look bad.  Stop it.

Would the fireworks have displayed the colors of a chamelion?

I second kate2468's motion.

He was trying for the Reagan "morning" thing. Whether you believe him or not - fireworks would have been appropriate.

And *most of* those who voted for someone else would not have been any more offended by the show.

Please give me a break people.  I have never voted for Mitt Romney in my life, but if he had (shudder) actually managed to win the election he would have had every right to celebrate the victory.  Even with fireworks if that's what he wanted.  Those of you whining that his fireworks display would have been insensitive are just looking for something to be offended about.  You know what's worse than a poor loser?  A poor winner.  Our guy won the election and I don't see any point in criticizing the other guy for a celebration that never took place.  It's time for everyone to grow up.
