Defense lawyers blasted Timothy P. Cahill’s campaign operatives in their closing arguments Tuesday, calling them buffoons and blowhards in a sweeping effort to absolve the former treasurer of any actions they took on his behalf.
Meanwhile, Cahill’s campaign manager, Scott Campbell, who is on trial with his former boss, was described by his own lawyer as a “flunky” who was only passing messages between Cahill and his consultants.

As Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley presided over a few highly unethical prosecutors, who withheld exculpatory evidence and attempted to bully defense attorneys who were committed to defending their clients. Worse, she joined these prosecutors in not only unfairly attacking the reputations of honest defense lawyers in open court and in motions filed with the court, but threatened them with prosecution for dubious "crimes." When her office failed to persuade a Superior Court judge to remove a defense attorney from a 1st degree murder case, she appealed to the Supreme Judicial Court, which rejected her appeal as totally baseless. How would you like to be accused of a serious crime, and having the District Attorney playing dirty and trying to intimidate your attorney into giving less than an honest effort or into abandoning you altogether? Coakley's shaky prosecution of Cahill demonstrates that she is still abusing her power to advance her political career.
