Both parties embrace Kerry for secretary of state

Senators from both parties have embraced the possibility of Senator John F. Kerry being nominated for secretary of state, a reflection of the chamber’s clubby ways, Republican interest in giving recently defeated senator Scott Brown a chance to return, and genuine respect for the Democrat’s work across the political aisle.

“I think the most important thing is that he’s well qualified,” said George Mitchell, a Maine Democrat and former Senate majority leader who served with Kerry and has led a post-political life of diplomacy and mediation.

John Kerry has the stature, literally, to be secretary of state.  :)

This would be a great way for Kerry to screw the Commonwealth, paving the way away from all that Senator Kennedy stood for and directly into republican agendas.  The thought of Warren having to work with Brown who didn't seem to care much for the Commonwealth he 'represented' makes my stomach turn.  And Massachusetts has been doing so well politically too!

Why is the Globe quoting Judson Philips about anything?  In addition to believing only property owners should be able to vote, he's still trying to get Obama declared an illigitimate President.  His lastest scheme involves having Romney ignore the Electoral College so the House can put him in office.  He's also accused Scott Brown of "throwing conservatives under the bus."  That he's trying to reorganize the Swift Boaters is no surprise.

If obama is legitimately president, why all the effort to suppress evidence or even commentary to the contrary? Why are our soldiers being disenfranchised from their rights to have their votes counted? Who WOULDN'T want to count the votes from those who have laid down their lives for US?

The interesting part would be the aftermath. Will the Dems in Massachusetts rush to change the law to prevent the people from voting For a Senator. Will Patrick cynically appoint a woman whose only claim to fame is being the widow of a Senator. Her only qualification is her late husband's magical surname?

Wasn't the last time Vickie "Kennedy" in this state, was when she buried her husband? She's perfect, the only thing she needs to know is Celtics play basketball, Bruins play hockey and football is played in Foxborough MA. and the dems will vote her in.

Nominate Barney Frank to be the interim Senator.

love your sense of humor.  you have to be kidding, right?

Keep Kerry in the Senate.

There is no way Kerry should be appointed Secretary of State.  We just went through the most expensive Senate race in history.  We don't need to go through that again.  Furthemore, it is important to have a senior Senator with a couple of terms under his belt for our representation.

Kerry needs to stay put.

Vickie Kennedy's only claim to fame is who she married - the last name.  Putting her into the Senate would be oh so wrong.  If she took the position, she is trading on the name. As never in a million years would she be considered if she hadn't married a Kennedy. Haven't seen her doing anything here in Massachusetts, since Ted died.  Wonder if the sheep like Democrats will vote her in because they are told to, party line must be followed, never mind what is good for the people.  Why can't we have qualified people in government, not party hacks.  Why can't people vote on conscience, not as sheep (doing what they are told no matter what)?  Vickie, if you want to do some good, stay where you are, you must really know it is your last name, not you.  Getting Kerry out of the Senate would be good.  When have you ever seen him in your area?  Has he ever left DC to make a visit to 'his state'?

You're kidding, right?   Kerry lives on Beacon Hill.

For heaven sake--as the appointee, Vicky would be in office only 4 months. She could just vote the party line--not exactly rocket science.

The Governor will appoint his party's choice and that person will be someone who intends to run for the office. I want Brown back, a moderate who is not in lock step with the Republican party. We need him to counter the "follower" Warren, who will take all direction from her party. At least Kennedy & Kerry could work with the other party from time to time, just as it should be.

Scott Brown’s reelection--even via a special election, which is the way he won the first time-- is unlikely. Scott greatly damaged his reputation as a nice guy in his--and Karl Rove’s-- campaign strategy of repeatedly making false claims in an attempt to ruin Elizabeth Warren’s character. Further, voters became increasingly aware that Scott’s claims of bipartisanship were all talk and contradicted by his votes. He is a poster boy for Wall Street; they depend on his vote and want him back in the Senate. He also supports big oil subsidies.

I'm for Kerry for SS! Bad news for the country at least takes Massachusetts off the hook for incompetency.
