Obama signs $633b defense bill

HONOLULU — President Obama signed a $633 billion defense bill for next year despite serious concerns about the limits Congress imposed on his handling of terror suspects and lawmakers’ unwillingness to back the cost-saving retirement of aging ships and aircraft.

Obama had threatened to veto the measure because of a number of concerns, but relented because he couldn’t pick and choose specific sections. However, in a statement, the president spelled out his objections.

Comments

"It authorizes $528 billion for the Defense Department’s base budget, $17 billion for defense and nuclear programs in the Energy Department, and $88.5 billion for the war in Afghanistan."

COMMENT: Look at the waste of money for nuclear programs even though the nukes will never be used. Their enormous destructive power makes them unusable since nations with nukes would only sign onto their own destruction if they engaged in nuclear warfare. During the cold war, they were never used even though stupidly Russia and  the US tried to compete with one another for nuclear superiority. Wonderful. Now each nation has enough nukes to destroy the planet. Why do we still keep them and waste billions to keep them functioning?

Because too many people are ignorant, or don't give a damn.

But the Contractors can contribute up to a $1million towards Obama's inauguration!

He likely was pondering the costs of the elaborate celebration for he & the Mrs.
