Gaffes aside, Joe Biden a power in White House

WASHINGTON — One day he is committing a string of verbal miscues, saying there is no “silver bullet” but that he is “shooting for Tuesday” in completing an ambitious gun control proposal. The next day, he’s the power behind the presidency.

Vice President Joe Biden — who is the other person taking the oath of office this weekend — has over the last four years refined one of the best shticks in politics, in which one of his biggest problems (his mouth) has become one of his greatest assets (his ability to connect).

I'm sure they'll be many disparaging the VP, especially on the other side of the pay wall, but just think, we could have had Sarah Palin.  That thought seems insane, almost like a bad dream, incredible, but it's true.

I would take Sarah Palin over Joe Biden (spread your legs to get frisked) and many other stupid comments and then his actions while debating Paul Ryan, I thought I was watching a senile old man and he is our VP. I didn't vote for Pres. Obama, but pray that nothing happens to him and we have this buffoon as president. Sarah Palin didn't act anywhere as stupid as this VP has....at least she ran a business, mayor, and Gov.....you know passed budgets etc...The democrats senate (Harry Reid) cannot get a budget passed in 4 years...because too many are in Joe Bidens league.

The Dude abides.

And always shall.

Only liberals consider plagarizing papers and speechs as "gaffs".

No need to say anything negative about slow joe.... its all on display...

The real shame is that there is a political party and unfortunately large section of the populace that dont understand what a disgrace and embarrasment this guy is.

In the same manner as your Post?

Dick Cheney was most often compared to Voldemort.  I don't know why Republicans think disparaging Biden is working.

Replies

Voldemort? I rather think Himmler.

Comparing a past VP of the US to Heinrich Himmler is disgusting.  You might dislike, even hate, the policies of the Bush administration but you cheapen political discourse by using Nazi analogies so irresponsibly.  Grow up and join the conversation.

Can we please have a caption contest for this picture?  It looks like he's making moves on that woman right in front of her husband and her son.  Yikes.

Awesome, huh !?

It is a pretty, umm, interesting, picture.

When a politician named Bush had the same tendency for gaffes tempered by statesmanship, the Globe lambasted him. Go figure.

Just the other day Biden claimed to have heard gun shots from a school shooting while he was playing golf. The slightest bit of investigation revealed this was impossible. Biden's usual "shtick" is to fabricate some story he's "experienced" to emphasize some point but his idiocy also extends to more dangerous assertions. In the swine flu outbreak in 2009 he said on the Today show he wouldn't go anywhere in confined places causing an uproar that Gibbs had to apologize for soon after. Biden lied in his debate with Paul Ryan about Benghazi when he said "we weren’t told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security again”. Then there are the more mundane lies, such as claiming he played football in college. Biden has been lying his entire career from plagiarizing Neil Kinnock's life story on done. To characterize his "shtick" as "gaffs" is to completely ignore facts that a child could uncover with a simple search. That Biden was chosen VP merely illustrates the fundamental lack of seriousness with which Obama takes his responsibilities. Biden is a joke, yes. But Obama is even worse having picked this clown.

Totally unlike Romney & Ryan...oh..and Fox News, "Reporting the News BEFORE it happens!" I guess mistakes, gaffes, awkwardness, and lack of connect are OK for Conservatives. Wake Up and smell the Democratic Victory. Republicans should spend more time bailing water out of their own sinking ship.

Harry has to make a budget - should be comical

Oh, I love Biden. Don't love his cozy relationship with the credit card cos in Delaware, but everyone has his demons.

Surprised that no one here has mentioned that the satirical online humor mag The Onion has created a skirt-chasing, boozing alter ego for the VP, "Diamond Joe Biden."  Quiite irreverent, but all in good fun.  It's been so popular that the mag released an eBook chronicling his exploits.  A true moment of hilarity:  in an online chat with "Diamond Joe" to promote the book, the real VP participated.  Diamond Joe apparently liked the wrong type of car.Joe Biden just won over the geek quandrant of the internetz for life.

he is a bufoon. please run in 16

If the country could buy Diamond Joe for what he is truly worth, then sell him for what he thinks he is worth, then the national debt could be significantly reduced, assuming the proceeds of the sale were applied by people who have demonstrated more intelligence and responsibility than Diamond Joe. A big mouth, a small brain, no hard skills, and a large ego makes for a very bad combination in any walk of life. Diamond Joe is what results when this type becomes "successful" in elective politics at too young an age (Senator from Delaware at 30) and stays there. Whether arrantly plagiarizing the speeches of Neil Kinnock, to shamelessly hectoring the late Robert Bork from his perch on the Senate Judiciary Committee, to lying about his law school grades, to serving as a perpetual gaffe factory for the Obama Administration, Biden has set a standard for public sector venality, ineptitude, and maladroitness that is unlikely to be surpassed in my lifetime, and that is saying a lot. And the Left criticizes Sarah Palin?

Replies

Well, actually Palin is "what results when successful in elective politics at too young an age". But hey, if you appreciate the likes of Palin, not to mention the late (sniff) Bork, then you must have your own ideas of what comprises "public sector venality, ineptitude, and maladroitness" (is that even a word?).

“How they can justify raising taxes on the middle class that’s been buried the last four years?

"I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,"

Biden pointed out Missouri state Sen. Chuck Graham and invited him to stand up to address the crowd.

“put y’all back in chains.”

"Folks, I can tell you I've known eight presidents, three of them intimately."

"You know, I'm embarrassed. Do you know the Web site number? I should have it in front of me and I don't. I'm actually embarrassed."

"When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television and didn't just talk about the, you know, the princes of greed. He said, 'Look, here's what happened."

"You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.... I'm not joking."

Replies

So WHO cares re: your last sentence.  In Dorchester in the 40's you could not go into a deli without many workers having a Yiddish accent.  SO WHAT DOES your blog, Begolfing, mean?   You know what?  GO GOLFING!

another finely reasoned response nrosen. Worried about having to produce a budget?
