WASHINGTON — In a confirmation hearing unusual for its bipartisan comity, Secretary of State-designate John F. Kerry pledged Thursday to pursue a different brand of foreign policy — one rooted in greater cultural understanding of the developing world — while leading a global fight to combat climate change, which he described as a direct threat to American security.
Kerry drew praise from Republicans and Democrats as he spoke, sitting at the same witness table where, more than four decades earlier, he had testified as a Vietnam veteran-turned war protester. Senators nodded to his deep knowledge of overseas challenges, which Kerry said require more active diplomacy to advance US economic and security interests.

From the article, "He also touched on Iran - sure to be a hotbed of international diplomacy given its advancing nuclear program - saying, “our policy is containment, not prevention.” I hope "containment, not prevention" does not apply to Iran's efforts to get a nuke. Obama has said that the United States would do whatever it takes to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. This sounds like prevention to me.
The thrown-out protestor makes me wonder whether or not her forced removal was the way to go. I wonder if the principal Lincoln popularized regarding government of the people and by the people was not overlooked here.
Her vocalized concerns at the hearing, if not allowed for some reason, could have been at least addressed by one of the senators at the hearing. This approach would have respected her right to voice her concern from a written statement to all the senators prior to the hearing. This is the least that could have been done. Then ratcheting up my radical and totally democratic opinion even more, what is wrong with ordinary citizens being allowed to voice their opinions at the meeting without being thrown out. This may prolong the hearing but so what?
Fillibuster by thousands of citizens? We could stop anything - awesome!

I will believe when Kerry gives up his corporate jet and big SUV's you know the one he had the hydrant removed in front of his Boston home so he could park it there. Just like Al Gore...super advocate for stopping global warming sells out for money to one of the biggest oil producers there in Quader.
Controlling the Climate is a non-issue. Apparently, many have forgotten the truism “it’s not nice the fool Mother Nature”. What a display of arrogance if one believes we can control the weather.

Why? Because they want to control and tax. If they could figure out how to control and tax the sun, scientists might get around to publicizing the fact that Mars is heating up, too - months after the sun had major coronal ejections.

The president who came into office speaking in lofty terms about bipartisanship and cooperation can only cement his legacy if he destroys the GOP.
