DANVERS — Beneath two glittering chandeliers, nearly 200 of the Republican Party faithful cast ballots Saturday morning in a straw poll for the US Senate race, choosing state Representative Daniel Winslow.
Winslow won 79 votes, compared with 55 for Michael Sullivan, the former US attorney who has been widely seen as a front-runner, and 59 for Gabriel Gomez, a private equity investor from Cohasset.

Laughing at the note about the the Danversport Yacht Club. I used to live in Danvers, was a lifeguard at the little beach across the river from it. Never saw a yacht, just small boats that could get that far up the river. I assumed the name was meant to be fun; I've been to many functions there and its just a nice place for any group to gather. Dan Winslow is right though; Republican have to be especially careful with their image -- unless, perhaps, it's time to stop being defensive and laugh. BTW,I was there yesterday too, am also excited about the quality of the three Republican candidates; could vote as an independent and voted for Dan, but will happily support any of them in the general election.
0 for 3, much like the Red Sox last year.
