WASHINGTON — Republican leaders, continuing to reject tax hikes, indicated on Sunday that they would like to reopen negotiations for a deal that reduces spending on entitlement programs. But there was no sign the parties were actively trying to reverse the $85 billion in cuts triggered on Friday.
Instead, the next round of negotiations is expected to center on congressional action regarding the federal budget and a broader discussion about an overhaul of the tax code and entitlements.

Lets face it our government is populated with a bunch of arroagant and selfish snobs. The republicans just cannot come to terms with the fact that they lost the election. They only won th econgress due to the re alignment. They lost the popular vote for congressmen by over 500,000. And yet they act like they won!! We can now follow Europe in the failed plan of Austerity.
Or we can follow Massachusetts and tax everyone back to the stone age.

Will the post sequestration federal budget still support the DOJ National Sex Offender Public Website? If yes, will the Tea Party fanatics and their Republican stooges in the House qualify for inclusion? Is a fiscal gang rape of legions of Americans without their consent enough to meet the stringent qualifications? I should hate to see them denied recognition on a tecnicality. The spirit of the thing must surely count for something!

The cold hard truth is that we ALL need to pay more in taxes AND ALSO expect less. That's the cold hard reality that we are faced with after years of politicians promising us something for nothing. Fight 2 wars, add prescription drug plan to Medicare, bail out Wall Street. Income disparity greater now than in the 1920s. As to the howls of protest that we are hearing re Governor Patrick proposal to raise income tax rate to 6.25...well you know what, I seem to recall it was above 6% when it was TEMPORARILY cut to 5.25. But hey, if you don't like it, maybe we should just shoot all the poor people. That's essentially what Maine is about to do in April when they end Medicaid.
BHL says" The cold hard truth is that we ALL need to pay more in taxes AND ALSO expect less. That's the cold hard reality that we are faced with after years of politicians promising us something for nothing. "..But didn't all of the major Democratic party politcians, as well as the news media say that the US economic problem would be solved just by taxing the RICH? Including our own Elizabeth Warren? ..You don't just suppose that they all LIED just to get elected and reelected, do you?....And if they did Lie, then why should we give them a second chance to lie again?..And apparently this blogger hasn't heard the REAL economic news, by reading other newspapers. The government spending is so great, that if EVERYBODY were taxed down to their underwear, the government would STILL run HUGEC deficits. Taxing everybody will fund the government only for a few weeks.
Globe headline is now talking about a March 27 government shutdown... But didn't the president and his.loyal followers in gthe news media, including the Gloe say that the SCAREquesgter was going to shut down the government?...Why doesn't the Globe explain what is the difference here?...Or are just supposed to COMPLETELY IGNORE what the Globe said last week?,,,,And in other news, why has the Homeland Securithy department released 3000 illegal immigrant prisoners from jail? ..Is that to get 3000 new Democratic party voters?

I still say that if John Boehner's pay and mega lifetime benefits were tied to the sequester, we would be heading for a solution to this mess. What does he have to lose?
I frankly don't dare who is at fault. There is a deal to be made. The same deal that has been there since 2011. It would be nice if the grown-ups committed to it and then forced the House into an up or down vote.
Is the government going to round up the 2000 illegal immigrants that the government set free last month in anticipation of the sequester? I'm not sure why they weren't just deported. But then again, this administration takes better care of illegals than they do with their own citizens allowing these illegals to getg subsidized housing, welfare, free medial and dental care, etc.

Federal revenue will return to its pre-recession levels in 2013, according to projections from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), setting a record for the most money the government has ever taken in.
In its latest Budget and Economic Update, the CBO forecasts that federal revenue will top $2.7 trillion in 2013, slightly higher than the $2.6 trillion the government collected in 2007, when the last recession officially began.
Government revenues had fallen by nearly $500 billion during the recession to $2.1 trillion in 2009, contributing to the $1.5 trillion deficit that year. However, federal revenues have been recovering since the recession ended in June 2009, and the CBO now projects that they will slightly eclipse their pre-recession peak.
In fact, the $2.7 trillion in revenue will be the most money the federal government has collected in history.
I'm sick and tired of people calling programs like Social Security and Medicare which I have paid into all my life as entitlements. But all the free stuff that the congress and the senate gets is OK!
I see a libertarian didn't like your remark. You have to understand that their Social Security they paid for, you on the other hand are milking the system. I know they think funny. They live in the United States of them, while you live in the US of A. .
