In 2012, Kennedy, the son of former Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II, cruised to a general election victory over Republican Sean Bielat by 25 percentage points. As a Democratic incumbent representing a comfortably Democratic district, Kennedy is expected to easily win a second term.

The congressman represents the state’s 4th Congressional District, which runs from Brookline and Newton to part of Fall River.
