In a widely expected move, first-term US Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III today announced he is running for re-election.
“[T]here is no lack of work left to do in Washington,” Kennedy said in a statement. “Whether it’s raising the minimum wage, fixing our broken immigration system or supporting an economic climate that gives our businesses that chance to succeed, I hope to continue to fight these important battles on behalf of my constituents.”
In 2012, Kennedy, the son of former Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy II, cruised to a general election victory over Republican Sean Bielat by 25 percentage points. As a Democratic incumbent representing a comfortably Democratic district, Kennedy is expected to easily win a second term.
The congressman represents the state’s 4th Congressional District, which runs from Brookline and Newton to part of Fall River.Joshua Miller can be reached at email@example.com. Follow him on Twitter @jm_bos.
