The Massachusetts Democratic Party will bestow its highest honors, the Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt awards, on US Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III and Veronica Turner, a top official at the state’s largest healthcare union.
The annual awards, to be presented at an Omni Parker House reception in May, have gone to some of the biggest names in Massachusetts politics in the past: Secretary of State John Kerry, former governor and presidential candidate Michael Dukakis, and former attorney general Martha Coakley, among them.
Kennedy, elected in 2012, is a rising star in Massachusetts politics, often mentioned in the same breath as freshman Congressman Seth Moulton and Attorney General Maura Healey.

He said in a statement that he is “deeply humbled” to receive the award “in a year when our Democratic ideals are questioned and our achievements are under constant attack.”
