A teenager was shot and killed on a Dorchester street yesterday afternoon, police said.
Boston police officers responded to the area of 34 Mallon Road just after 1:15 p.m. and found the victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to Boston Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The victim’s uncle identified him as Lloyd Payne, 18. Payne’s uncle said about two hours after the shooting that his nephew had been killed, and police confirmed the death last night.
“He was a good kid,” said Payne’s uncle, Emmanuel Payne, 37, who lived with the teenager at the Mallon Road address.
Emmanuel Payne said outside his home yesterday that his nephew had been driving a green Acura on a parallel street when he was shot and later crashed the vehicle into the family’s backyard.
“He just bought it [the car] yesterday,” Emmanuel Payne said.
Yesterday at the scene, police had blocked off the intersection at Bullard Street, which runs parallel to Mallon, and Rosseter Street.
Orange cones were placed at different points along the intersection, and police were also investigating farther up Bullard.
Emmanuel Payne said Lloyd was looking for work and had never been in trouble with police before. He said Lloyd Payne’s older brother was fatally shot last year.
Emmanuel Payne described Lloyd as a “joking, friendly” youth.
The slaying was the 61st homicide in Boston this year, compared with 42 at this time last year, police said.Travis Andersen can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
