Iraqi lawmakers rethink pricey armored car perk

Faced with bitter criticism from an impoverished public, Iraqi lawmakers said yesterday that they were having second thoughts about buying themselves millions of dollars worth of armored cars on the government’s dime. In a late-night vote with little scrutiny, parliament last week approved spending $50 million on the armored cars out of Iraq’s $100 billion budget for 2012.
