Activists call vote in Syria a farce

Syria’s government held parliamentary elections Monday that it billed as a step toward long promised reform. But the opposition dismissed the event as a farce that ignored demands for real political change that sparked a national uprising 14 months ago. The election was not expected to change anything in the sustained standoff between the government and the opposition, with some 10,000 civilians killed along with hundreds of soldiers.
