Israeli strikes on Gaza kill Hamas official

JERUSALEM — Israel launched its most ferocious assault on Gaza in four years Wednesday after persistent Palestinian rocket fire, hitting at least 20 targets in aerial attacks that killed the top military commander of Hamas, damaged Israel’s fragile relations with Egypt, and escalated risks of a new war in the Middle East.

The Israel Defense Forces coupled the intensity of the airstrikes with the threat of a ground invasion of Gaza similar to its three-week operation in the winter of 2008-09, shifting infantry brigades and calling up some specialist reserves. The Israelis also warned all Hamas leaders in Gaza to stay out of sight or risk the same fate as the Hamas military commander, Ahmed al-Jabari, who was killed in a pinpoint airstrike as he was riding in a car down a Gaza street.

You must have voted for our lovely left-wing Anti-American,anti-capalistic,socialist comrade President ( God help us!) Obama. Welcome to the destruction of America!!!

I'm really not sure how killing kids and an 11 month old baby qualifies as a deterrent or will do anything to bring about peace.. It just escalates things and makes the security of Israel less likely, not more.

Infrequent military strikes - primarily in response to missile attacks and border-crossing acts of violence... Seems like a pattern? And when Hamas takes "credit" for the acts of violence, and there is no effort made to eliminate these missile attacks through diplomatic channels ...exactly what is Israel supposed to do? And when the perpetrators of the missile attacks launch those missiles in public areas where any sort of military response is explicitly designed to create civilians casualties which are then be used to demonize Israel - all you have are acts of war by a clear aggressor against non-military targets. Israel is a tiny country, besieged on all sides by forces dedicated to their evisceration - They are also a democracy that contributes mightily to technology and humanitarian efforts throughout the world. Let's balance the total contributions of the opposing sides here before we draw any conclusions. Oh wait, it never works that way with these sorts of articles.....
