Group chides Israeli growth

Says Netanyahu undercuts plans for two-state deal

JERUSALEM — A review of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s settlement policies shows a clear intent to prevent the creation of a viable Palestinian state by stepping up construction in strategic areas, an Israeli antisettlement group said Wednesday.

During Netanyahu’s four-year term, 38 percent of nearly 6,900 West Bank construction starts were reported in settlements deep inside the territory, compared to 20 percent under his predecessors, the Peace Now group said.

The best chance for peace passed during the Clinton administration.  The Israeli offer included Gaza, the West Bank (which at the time had less Israeli settlements) and autonomy for Palestinians in East Jerusalem.  Israel wanted no more attacks and no right of return.

Arafat said, no.

Activists speak of Palestinian human rights on one hand and the destruction of Israel on the other. Even if you were to accept that the Palestinian position is a divine and righteous claim to their homeland, no amount of force or righteousness will dislodge 8 million Israelis.  American indians would have a better a chance of retaking Manhattan.

Peace Now is a pro-Palestinian group that no longer has any credibility within Israeli society.  It is a leftwing group that blames Likud for the lack of a peace agreement and refuses to acknowledge that the Palestinian Arabs have repeatedly walked away from generous peace offers by various Israeli governments, both left and right.
