VATICAN CITY (AP) — Black smoke poured from the Sistine Chapel chimney on Tuesday, signaling that cardinals had failed on their first vote of the papal conclave to choose a new leader for the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics and their troubled church.

I wonder how in the world they can keep 1.2 billion people believing in this silly 2,013 year story. I thought that people were getting a lot smarter than that. I know I did !
A very Happy and Contented EX CHRISTIAN!
Many Western Christians (and that includes some Anglican priests) do not believe in the divinity of Christ, but they still cherish, as I do, the message of Christian love. That's good enough for me. You don't have to throw out the baby with the bath water.
So, 1.2 billion people are wrong and you are right? And you think your posts result in anything but laughter? Why does your ilk bother to breathe?
Well obviously the church didn't teach you anything about kindness and charity. You must have been out beating up people that day. You only learned hatred. Do you consider yourself a good example of Christianity?
fodog7, Yes, unfortunately, the vast majority of people in the world ae terribly uneducated and ignorant, and believe in all manner of voodoo, spirits, fairies, demons, angels, devils, and gods. Sublimly stupid...what about you?
I was raised on Christian love and charity and I still value that as part of my life, but all this pomp -- expensive pomp -- has nothing to do with love or charity. It's irrelevant.
It reminds me of royalty of yore. "Look at me. I wear ceremonial garb that cost more than you make in a year. My predecessors killed uncounted numbers of people for defying me and I have never expressed regret for any of that. See how important I am?"
