Tough poses in a political theater

Applause is in order. The Kabuki Theatre is over. Last week’s annual meeting of the American-Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) garnered tremendous attention due to the group’s influence, access to power, and lobbying efforts. But it was just theater, and all the actors - President Obama, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the would-be presidents, the attendees - are sophisticated enough to know it as they repeat lines that mean very little. The only remarkable aspect to the whole act is taht anyone still believes it has consequence.
