MILWAUKEE — Scott Walker survived historic outrage in this state to become the first governor in the nation’s history to survive a recall election. Bursting turnout by unionized workers angry over the loss of collective bargaining rights under Walker and by urban residents who felt abandoned by Walker’s funding priorities, was in the end was smothered by support for Walker from suburbs, small towns, and rural areas.
Walker virtually swept the state outside of Milwaukee and the Madison area. In his victory speech in Waukesha, where he was beating Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett 72 percent to 27 percent, with nearly all the votes in, Walker said it was time to put differences aside and “figure out the ways that we can move Wisconsin forward.”

In an example of its nonpartisan, fair-minded and balanced reporting, the Globe covered the election from a right-wing-Catholic church on a street near the left-wing-UW campus. The tension in the air between the two opposing camps must have been palpable from the Globe's perch. What a job getting the pulse on the people of Wisconsin (what is a non-practicing attorney? is he retired or did he lose his license or did he become a hedge fund manager or a union spokesperson?)
Nice story but the pro union candidate never made it out of the primary. She even lost her home county. The union issue was all but dead except for the people that didn't like the rioting in Madison. Those voters were even more motivated and that is why Walker won in a state Obama carried by 14% of the vote. No senator got recalled and all won big. Huge win for sound fiscal government!!
why did they pull the column??
Another different column?? Wow!! Somebody got spanked.
