Just before Democrats convened in Springfield last week, local union leaders held their traditional breakfast rally. This year, the main purpose was to fire up the troops for Elizabeth Warren, the Democrat who is challenging Republican Senator Scott Brown.
“We’re in a fight for our lives,” Lou Mandarini Jr., the secretary-treasurer of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO, told a packed ballroom. “It’s a fight for survival.”

if the unions wanna be PO'd at anything or anybody it ought to be their warm and fuzzy men and women democratic electoids who promise the various and sundry public and private unions ANYTHING , no matter what the cost or fiscal situation in return for labors muscle, gelt and vote. the HERALDS SHELLY COHEN and her crew had a great editorial the other morn starting off with the words, "BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID" in addressing the public sector unions after the stunning victory for gov. walker in wisconsin. the tide is turning. BUT, than you have suffolk county ma. US of A where nothing changes cuz the greater percentage of the abysmal number of people who actually vote just happen to work for the city, state, various authorities and unions, public and private.ya know whats funny though is that the union vote did squat for coakley and that if ya have a chance to talk with a lot of rank and file union members, they are on the side of scott brown, no matter what their honchos are hoping and praying for or how many signs they put up. me,i'm so use to seeing our standards set so low(the bar is on the ground)for electoids that i'm voting for credibility which means scott brown is still my senator. one john kerry is one to many and we sure as hades don't need another. thanks vennochi for this piece. ma

38% of Wisconsin labor union members voted for Scott Walker. What does that tell you?
I believe that when the average union worker understands that Brown is a backstabber they will know what to do.
Exit polling of Wisconsin voters indicated that no less than 10% voted on the principle that this was a mis-application of the recall process. In that context it was not so much an endorsement of Walker as it was a rejection of endless political do-overs just because you didn't like the results of the last election. That 10% difference would tip the balance against Gov. Walker if they all voted against him in the next regular election. As with most things, the truth is more complex than the platitudes.
"San Jose's pension payments jumped from $73 million in 2001 to $245 million this year, equal to 27 percent of its general fund budget. Four new libraries and a police station have never opened because the city cannot afford to operate them." The city's bond rating got downgraded because of the unions. San Jose is the 10th largest city and super liberal. It's a wake up call that 70% of the voters, voted against the unions. I hope Warren keeps voicing her pro-union and stick it to the taxpayers ideology. It will go over well with the real non union voters.
How about a 45% drop in union dues after Walkers law passed. That is vey telling.
"Tonight, Wisconsin voters rewarded political courage. Upon taking office, Governor Walker fearlessly took on the staunch defenders of the status quo and tackled unsustainable entitlements and long-term fiscal liabilities. Governor Walker closed a $3.6 billion deficit without raising taxes; he ushered in the first property tax decrease in a dozen years; he strengthened schools; and he turned around the state's economy. His actions have made Wisconsin stronger today, and tomorrow. And they have improved the lives of the citizens of Wisconsin. "-Bob McDonnelll. And the unions and Warren still don't get it and they want to keep sticking it to the Taxpayes.
Lizzie is an opportunistic woman. Whether it is her penchant for faux diversity status, or her support of Labor, at the expense of the middle class. And please don't try and tell me that unions are the middle class. Unions represent 11%+ of the American workforce, but oddly enough, 80% of the Public Sector workforce. May be it is just me, but I am beginning to make some connections to some of our fiscal problems(at all levels of government)and our 'flexible' Democratic friends. If you want to claim a faux diversity status, plagiarize recipes (of all things), nobody is going to die from those silly, sad acts. But Lizzie, you have to admit, it does speak to some serious character flaws!! What type of behavior should we expect, when the issues are much more significant and the stakes are much higher. Will you act responsibly, or can we expect more family spin or your personal behavior? That is really the question.
