As veteran population changes, services must adapt
The proposed reductions in the Pentagon’s budget are all the rage right now. But the public’s acceptance of changes to military spending does not easily extend to rethinking how services are provided for the men and women who have already fought. Despite everything that the numbers and the wars and the suffering that has occurred in the last ten years may suggest, there is a basic fact -- a statistical certainty -- that is changing the way we need to look at veteran’s needs. There just won’t be as many of them.
