With his working-class roots, former Boston Mayor Ray Flynn definitely stands for the average guy. He’s also a pro-life Democrat, who once served as US ambassador to the Vatican.
The combination explains the true value of his television ad endorsing Republican Senator Scott Brown over Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warrren. Flynn describes Brown as “a regular guy . . . honest . . . hardworking . . . an independent voice . . . a person you can work with.” For those who know Flynn’s history, that ad packs a lot of symbolism into a short pitch.

what for the most part vennochi, what we the people have elected to city hall, beacon hill and the streets of the District of Columbia has no relationship with the word TRUST. what it does have is a joined at the hip and lip affair with the words bribery, extortion and silence or in other words the best that gelt can and does buy.(or the worst depending on which way one looks at it.) he is still an active reservist in our armed forces along with being a good husband, father and a guy who is trying to find ways in working with people of both parties to get the american people out from this economic nightmare that is worsening by the day. so, browns got my vote. for the lady running against him, all i can say is that one john kerry in a city state and nation is one to many and we don't need another. not now, not ever. ma
TRUST? Let' see. From another woman's perspective, I TRUST Ray Flynn, I TRUST Scott Brown. And I DISTRUST the motives of Joan Vennochi.
Of what relevance is Former Mayor Flynn at this juncture in time? He has not participated in the political scene for years in spite of his pitch in the ad. He had long ago left Democratic Party beliefs and became a one issue politician. So instead of pulling out real Democrats to vouch for his candidacy Scott Brown pulls out a group of former pols or office holders with changed political philosophy and drags them before the public. The role of government is not to make a religion successful or carry out its tenets. It is especially unsettling when someone has an employer who expects they can delve into their employee's private legitimate choices that have nothing to do with the practice of their own religion. If the salary is directly used or via other compensation such as health insurance to limit what is necessary for good health, an American value has been breached. It is for the individual to follow the teachings of their own religion not to interfere with another's. It is by example that people are attracted to a person's point of view. That is the American way.
What a sad disappointment Ray Flynn has become. There was a time when he represented the real interests of working people and led Boston out of the period of dark conflict that had been stoked by, among other things, the Southern Strategy of Richard Nixon. No one is making Catholics use birth control. How is that even an issue? No one is making gay Catholics marry each other? How is that an issue? Paul Ryan's plan would mean that people like Newt Romney who make $20 million a year would pay virtually no taxes. Now THAT is an issue. Not exactly the Catholic Charity point of view. There was a time when Ray Flynn seemed ecumenical, in the tradition of the beloved John XXIII. He's become sectarian. Maybe he sees it as a good career move.
What a brainstorm. Re-elect the dame party that got you into your "economic nightmare."
I'm pro-life, but have to weigh what will cause the most harm or do the most good. That's politics. Ray, when he supports Republicans, violates the primary beliefs of Christians. Christians, like their founder, are not "bootstraps, my money, my genius and hard work" types. Christ was always with the little guy. He showed compassion, faith and willingness to do the right thing in the face of odds with the loaves and fishes. He did not preach it was essential for the rich to be successful, but said it was easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than the rich to enter heaven. If you consider your self to be Catholic of the year" then that's what you should believe. You should care for your neghbor, even if he's despised, like the good samaritan. All these GOP christians are a joke.
The Flynn singleminded endorsement says it all. Flynn's cause célèbre is and has been his pro-life cheerleading. That, in turn, begins to brand Brown as pro-life by association, even though he claims he isn't. Yet, Brown has a spotty record in support of women's issues despite the testimonial to the contrary by his wife Gale Huff's claims of how wonderful he's been because he makes breakfast and freed her to pursue a career when he wasn't making enough of a salary. I am glad to see he's traded in the truck and barn coat for a more upscale car in his campaign commercials, but he should support equal pay for women, reproductive rights and Federal recognition for same sex couples, for that matter.
When Ray Flynn gets pregnant by force and decides he is against abortion....I might be ready to listen to his reasons. Shut the hell up Ray!
Ray Flynn is the Buffoon who ran the City of Boston into the ground. Give us all a break--He should just go away all ready. Liz Warren is all about getting us middle class folks a fair deal economically forget all the religious dogma--Our kids and families need good paying jobs and a rebuilding of this country NOW. Vote Liz Warren--she knows how to get it done. Scott Brown--Living off his wifes' salary--loser
I consider myself an average guy, homeowner, middle class suburb, Democrat....Ray Flynn's views and dogmatic Catholic stance on social issues have no relevance on me, my life, my gay and lesbian friends and neighbors......in fact,, everytime I see his ad...I get a very negative and backwards image of Scott Brown. He was a mediocre mayor at best, and bugled his role at ambassador to the Vatican. Not a plus for Mr. Brown for those in my demographic.

Ray Flynn has become a tool for the GOP, popping into the news periodically to push his one agenda, not unlike the Catholic bishops who allowed themselves to be used by the tea party during last summer's debacle on the debt ceiling. These ideologues put our national financial systems at risk to make a political point, and used the bishops who watched through one-issue-only glasses. If Ray were to think deeply (don't know if he ever has) about the reasons we're here, he would care about the needy.

"Around Here He's Just Called 'Dad'" -- Episode 6: "Da-a-ad. Here's another commercial with one of those old Democraticals who say they're supporting you. How come they're all 'former" elected officials?" "Well, honey, I cam't come in there to watch TV just now. I'm working on an omelette for your mother. But, to answer your question, that'll change when we're able to finally get Menino's endorsement." "Dad, who's Mean-o? He doesn't sound like someone you would want to have supporting you." "Ha-ha! It's Meh-NEE-no, honey. And, yeah, he can be a pain in the neck, but it's important when these Democrats turn on their constituents and support me. It proves what spineless wimps they really are. Now, honey, turn off the TV and go get your mother. It's time for breakfast with the Browns, for real." "Oh, Dad, it's turncoats for the barncoat, huh?" Exit, to sounds of audience laughter.

**********......"Her strategy is to be the smartest candidate in their upcoming debates and slide into office on brainpower and the surge of Bay State voters who are expected to turn out to support President Obama".***************She is running on being the SMARTEST PERSON in the room???????? That is a scary thought.
I tend to agree, but I would hesitate to use the term "dullard". I would agree that Mayor Flynn does not inform my thinking on matters other than getting into heaven and the sanctity of life, as he defines it, neither of which influence my point of view. But I'm sure his reward is in heaven.
Are you suggesting that you are a judge of intelligence and wisdom?
I've researched the issues that I'm interested in being enacted into law. I've reviewed my beliefs concerning social issues and how picking a person to serve on theSupreme Court will affect those beliefs. I've read much about both candidates' positions and votes if any and how they match up to my ideas. I'll make a decision from my very own thinking. And I'll do it without ANY input or any endorsement by any person for either candidate. I advise others to do the same. That's an endorsement for independent thinking, not for any candidate. Although I would like you to cast a vote for...
