The most amazing thing about the Obama administration’s recent announcement of a 54.5-mile-per-gallon standard for cars by 2025 was that about the only major person who criticized it was Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. The Romney campaign called the standards an “extreme” move that would force consumers to “pay thousands of dollars more up front for unproven technology that they may not even want.”
But many of the forces that for decades said the same thing were not at Romney’s side.

THANK YOU for this article! Instead of fighting to maintain the status quo, some forward-thinking people and companies are learning to embrace the inevitable change and take a leadership role in advance.
Is Romney really being that ignorant? Why did he even bother saying that? Such a statement will only hurt him in the long run.
You don't know what you're talking about. All of the new cars [stink] to drive!! Surely you have noticed everyone is riding in Chevy Silverado's lately. Did you ask yourself 'why'? The basic Chevy truck is the only vehicle most fat Americans can still fit in comfortably!!! It is the only 'car' you can still get a big basic V8 with a really nice transmission! People are buying basic Chevy trucks because it is the only comfortable affordable 'normal' car still remaining out there! And you cheer on the garbage no one wants...
I fit just fine in my hybrid, and I am not a small guy. I love it, it's a comfortable sedan, and I get around 39 mpg with plenty of power for anything I can see needing a car for. I think you need to ease up on the exclamation mode and tone down the generalizations. Clearly "everone" isn't driving Silverados, and I'm certainly not the only one happy with what I drive. If you have the cash to spend on $4/gallon gas and 15 mpg driving, feel free. Now lighten up, Francis.
Mr. Romney is like the Pope -- a leader whose vision is not of the "way forward".
