In Kenya, turning savannah into gold

KONZA, Kenya

Drive 30 minutes out of Kenya’s capital and you will come to a spot by the side of the road where scrub brush extends for as far as the eye can see. Not even a cow dots the horizon. Only a lonely signboard gives a clue that something big could happen here: “Properties for sale.”

In addition to infrastructure, Kenya needs to preserve its political stability. That has always been at risk, considering the ease with which ethnic tensions arise in the area. Things look hopeful for now, but the balance is still rather delicate. I hope they succeed.
