Maybe it shouldn’t have been a surprise to see Mitt Romney morph from a self-described “severe conservative” into the reasonable, if somewhat aggressive, pro-business moderate who showed up to debate President Obama on Wednesday night. Unswerving fealty to principle has never been Romney’s thing. Still, the effect was striking. The New Romney, unlike the old, looked like someone who could plausibly threaten Obama’s hold on the White House.
His strongest issue was the one that matters most in this election: jobs and the economy. The Old Romney contemptuously dismissed 47 percent of the country as lazy freeloaders who would never amount to anything. His prescription for growth was built upon tax cuts and lots of them, maintaining the Bush marginal rates, and slashing an additional 20 percent on top of that. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center determined that his plan would cost $5 trillion in forgone revenue over 10 years.

Hold on here. So now Mr. Romney has shown up skipping from one side to the other. It does not make him more electable it makes him more untrustworthy. Further his philosophy is to treat those down on their luck as recipients of a charity whose philanthropists, if that's what you want to call them after they robbed the piggy bank, hold all the sweat of worker's productivity. They will dole out some but only enough to maintain a cheap labor force. They have become the present day equivalent of slavemasters. Next week we will hear Mr. Romney try to defend the neo-conservative view of "peace through strength." It pushes the envelope towards war if some nations disagree with us or if we feel entitled to their resources. So the draft deferrer along with his non military serving family wants him to be commander in chief. Nothing could be more disasterous for the nation.

HH: Again hogwash. It is the reactionary canard that is always brought out. Under other administrations in the past there has been a stronger middle class. The immigrant problem was alive and kicking then. The border has been more secure under this administration than any in recent history. Why do you make up such crock? However I will agree that undocumented workers depress wages in the industries affected. That is because some unpatriotic business owners circumvent the law for perceived self gain and screw the working public. It is to them you should address your complaints.
The voters want a President with core values who is relentlessly trying to advance them, rather than a President with a values costume who is releentlessly trying to win.
Maybe there's an upside. Maybe he can Etch-a-Sketch the national debt and convince our creditors that THEY owe US money.

What part of dynamnic economics don't so many liberals understand? To oversimplify for over-simple minds: people working and creating jobs, more revenue for government, less need for government welfare. People just getting checks from government -- less revenue, quickly used up. NOw what?
What an arrogant statement! I'm sorry I don't have your superior intellect, but even my over-simple mind doesn't understand your overly-simplistic solution to all the country's problems.
Of you don't know what simplism is, you should look it up. It's your modus operandi.
Right, but the Social Security checks and Medicare benefits that you get while sitting on your high horse in Marblehead are OK? How many jobs has CLT created?
