Just as the stars looked like they might be aligning for Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and his quest to become the next secretary of state, fate intervened yet again.
This time, it came in the form of a dismal debate performance by President Obama in his first showdown with Republican Mitt Romney last week. Suddenly, a second Obama term — and Kerry’s chance for a starring role in it — seemed less certain.

Obama securely back in the White House, Elizabeth Warren and Deval Patric in the Senate and John Kerry at State; sounds good to me. Ultimately however, Obama probably wouldn't pick Kerry as, he was passed over the first time by Obama. Romney would pick Bush favorite John Bolton who famously

Sorry about the multiple post. The possibility of a John Bolton appointment is reason enough to not vote for Romney.
I happen to agree that Afghanistan is a huge mistake. But that doesn't make me want the Republicans in power. They likely would have made it even worse than it already is.
The terrorists said repeatedly 'we will fight the Americans wherever we can find them'. Bush was smart enough to know we can't easily fight in the terrain of Afghanistan. We get to choose the battlefield that makes the most sense to us. Since Saddam had to go anyway, it was better for them 'to find us' on the battlefield of Iraq than Afghanistan. Note also that Bush's 'surge' in Iraq worked later and note further that Obama's surge in Afghanistan HASN'T worked!! Now get a refund from the liberal arts college you wasted your money on.
I am a retired military veteran. I served in all of those years that honorable, decent American soldiers fought and died in Vietnam. Mr. Kerry desecrated those names inscribed on that huge tombstone as he sat so smugly in the Senate hearings calling a whole generation of young American boys monsters. That era has left me with a permanent, visceral, nauseating disgust for this man. It never ceases to amaze me that my fellow Americans cannot discern the shallow core of his soul. I have no doubt that among the hundreds of thousands of men who served with high honor and distinction, some did not. For Mr. Kerry to self-elevate himself as his feet kicked dirt in all our faces is unfathomable. It is equally unfathomable to me that the people of Massachusetts bestow such honor on this dishonorable man.
I fought in that war. I had many friends who died, and some that were physically or mentally mutilated. It was for absolutely NOTHING. It was a brutal war fought for all the wrong reasons, mostly by young men like myself who were drafted.
Senator Kerry was a hero in the war and then came home to be a hero again trying to stop the useless killing. I've been to the memorial in Washington several times. I can't stay away, and when I'm there I can't stop the tears. You can hate all you want. Hate is what causes wars. Hate is what caused the death of nearly 60,000 Americans and 2 million Vietnamese.
Kerry has my thanks. But someone like you, who's filled with hatred, is a disgrace to veterans everywhere.
Profox, very well said. John Kerry has been an opportunist at every step in his career, from bring a video camera to Vietnam, to record footage for future campaigns, to embracing the anti Vietnam left upon his return, and testifying in congress about the "atrocities" he claimed to have seen. It was all about him seeking his next office. Even his selection of wealthy wives allowed him join the class of limousine liberalism that he always felt was his birthright. It is all about him, and not about his country.
Bravo Richmond 12 & Profox Kerry is truly Unfit to Command"!
Kerry helped to sell a lie to the American people about a terrorist attack on 9/11 for TWO WEEKS!! Obama and Kerry and all of the other Democrat LIAR$ need to go! I don't believe for a minute Obama is up by 20 points in this state! Ask around: no one is planning to vote for him, so how is he ahead? Perhaps those ghost votes the Democrats had added to the rolls by the welfare dept maybe.
Dozens of people I know plan to vote for Obama, and none of them are on your (and RawMoney's) despised "government support". You may need to get out and talk to people who have other points of view. There are many of them out there.
Right. Democrats lie. Republicans tell the truth. Dumb. Dumb. Dumb!
It's not at all clear to me that the "enemy" has been truly identified in this conversation. The Red team says it's the blue team captain that's the problem. The Blue team says it's the red team that's the problem. Do we need to consider Eisenhower's reference to the military-industrial complex, and think in terms of who makes money in a war? Who truly gains power in a war? Who ends up being cannon-fodder in a war?
Insider accounts of the Obama debate preparations said that Kerry was actually tougher on Obama in the mock debates than Romney himself. No, the prep appears to have been adequate, but Obama didn't pull it off, for some reason. Anyhow, there are significant enough differences between the two candidates in their positions that prospective voters shouldn't shift their support simply because one person comes across better in a debate. It's like voiting for the most popular person for high school class prez. Determine which candidate's views you share and vote accordingly.
it is funny how it all slips away for this untalented mooch
Ah, begolfing, then you have much in common with him.
really who. another nice liberal.
I think your column is a bit premature. Ridiculously so. The debate performance appears to have had relatively little effect on the polls, but you seem to be writing Obama's obituary. Wishful thinking maybe?
Still, I hope Kerry doesn't become Secretary of State. I think he's been a good senator who I can count on to reflect my views on most issues. I'd rather see him stay in Congress.
Kerry can blame the Senior Senator Kennedy for the obama mess. It's believed the Kennedy crew had little use for the Clintons, and vice versa. Kerry's collateral damage.
