After Sandy, environmentalists, military find common cause

It doesn’t make sense to cast all public policy challenges as “wars on (fill in the blank).” The combative language can seem way too harsh when applied to, say, drug dependency; military terms can’t really convey the deeply personal implications of cancer treatment and research.

But war might be an entirely accurate — and now even more appropriate — word to describe the urgency of the effort to curb climate change. As Hurricane Sandy swept through this country, environmental activists found an unexpected ally: the military, a group not usually known for its liberal leanings.

Here's an example of real climate change. About 25,000 years ago our little corner of the planet was submerged under a glacier. 25,000 years when measured against the life of the planet equates to late yesterday afternoon.

Quite right, and life will probably continue long after we're gone. Nevertheless, that does not disprove at least some minimum level of human contribution to either the problem or the solution.

The military is waging war against cycles of solar activity. Seems reasonable m

Not only does the U.S. military see climate change as a national security threat, green technologies are practical and save lives. The Navy has been experimenting with powering ships via biofuel so we aren't as dependent on foreign oil. And solar power using flexible technologies like CIGS (copper indium gallium selenide) are powering equipment to reduce the need for fuel convoys, which can be rolling targets for terrorists and insurgents. More information is spelled out in this article:

Anyone who supports the U.S. military should also support the development green technologies that can keep us safe and energy-independent.

Unfortunately, most Americans have been brainwashed by the GOP to believe that this is all a big liberal lie. A scheme hatched to  limit the profits of American capatilists involved in selling of natrual resources as fast as they can. All for the profit of the few and the ruin of many. Global Warming and the disasterous results are now beginning to be felt. But still, I see folks sitting in idling vehicles, blissfully unaware of the bad effects and the waste of gasoline they are perpetuating. Even with gas at over $3.50 per gallon, people still don't give a rat's rear end. Preferring to sit in running vehicles texting, or talking on the phone. As if gasoline were an inexhaustible resource and the air cannot be polluted by the burning of fossil fuels. Getting the average angry American to understand the consequences of ignoring this huge issue which threatens the balance of nature itself will be a gargantuan task. Given that that the profit seekers will obfuscate, lie, mis-inform and generally block any attempts to face the problem in a realistic way. But, it may not matter, because it may already be too late. With the polar ice caps melting at a heretofore unknown rate of speed, monumental disaster is right around the proverbial corner.....but lets continue to play russian roullete and gamble on future generation's environmental safety: lets just ignore it and maybe it will go away.
