Three crises that can’t wait

With his dramatic victory in Tuesday’s election, President Obama must now pivot quickly to address three urgent foreign policy issues that may go a long way to determine the success of his second-term agenda. By any objective standard, Obama produced a successful international record during the past four years. He brought us out of Iraq, took the fight to Al Qaeda, resurrected our global credibility, and charted a new policy to sustain American power in Asia.

But there is no rest for the weary in international politics. Obama now faces a sea of strategic challenges from ongoing terrorist threats to climate change, the European debt crisis, a rogue regime in North Korea, and the uncertain path of the Arab revolutions.

We need to protect our own borders, Al queda will try to harm us, that's a fact.

Obviously the Afghan war did not make much of an impact on the election simply because everyone agreed with the policy.  Of course those voices that wanted immediate withdrawal are labled anti-American.  So the next best thing ended up being a set date for withdrawal.  A bad deal for the troops on the ground but then we always get stiffed so nothing new there.

Al-Qaeda will always be a threat and after them there will be someone else.  There always is.  There's been the red brigade, the PlO, the Shining Path, so many I've lost track.  Heck we've got our own crazy militia's in this country.  So there will always be the fruitcakes.

Iran is a problem to be addressed but after Iran there will be someone else.  Only the naive lay at the feet of any given President the craziness that goes on in the world unless that Pres. initiates the craziness himself.

Except for the lunatic fringe and the childish screamers the last four years have been like any other four years I have lived through after tough economic times.  So I leave it to the zealots and the childish to rant on about the world but I fully expect, international crisis, a recovering ecnomy and a lot of kicking and screaming by my fellow "old white guys" being dragged into the 21st century.
