Ike was what the Republican Party was before it lost its mind. He would've found the Tea Party to be an abomination a threat to the nations cohesion. He had no great social conscience, no desire to change the world. But he also had no fear of change, no fear of progress. He offered a vision of calm, deliberate strength without the pomposity that we see from the Party today. Sadly today he'd have to run as a Democrat.
I seem to remember the Democrats were feeling him out to run before Truman decided to run in '48 (or maybe it was because they didn't think Truman could win election, don't remember which); it really wasn't all that clear which party he supported.
According to David McColough's research, Eisenhower told (lied) Truman he was going to run as a Democrat when Truman decided not to run. Meanwhile Eisenhower was secretly organizing his run as a Republican. Apparently, Eisenhower received large offers of support $$$ from big business in which he found it difficult to refuse.
So log as he does not follow Ike's lead in 1953 when, on behalf of US and British oil companies, he okayed the CIA coup that deposed Mosaddegh, the elected PM of Iran, and replaced him with the Shah, the results of which we are still sadly living with today.
Let’s put some folks to work right now rebuilding roads, bridges,
Fine, but "some folks" means union members. You can't just give a day worker a shovel, the way FDR did in the Depression.

The Tea Party = Barry Goldwater ! We know what happened to him.
Lets start with President Obama federalizing the all the power companies in New Jersey and New York who are holding up outsiders without Union Cards from fixing the lines in the Sandy Disaster Area! Then he should think HUGE--An eight rail wide 300 MPH Bullet Train Electric railway super highway Up and Down the East Coast and out to the Midwest, to replace the antiquated 1800's built current system. Eisenhowers roads are now outdated--immediately rebuild all the Interstates and make them 12 lanes wide everywhere and build highway tunnels under the Cities they pass through. Require all power/cable/telephone lines be placed underground by 2030. Any problems with companies or labor Federalize them and have the Military run them. No more BS from either the rich fleecing us or the unions shaking us down and holding up progress!!!!
LIPA is the (state) nationalized version of LILCO. So the feds should take over the state?
Let's not forget that Eisenhower's secretary of defense was the former chairman of General Motors who urged that our highway system be built. It was also built under the premise that our army could be highly mobile if the country was under attack. However, the invading enemy could also use these highways. Highways are a two way street (no pun intended).
this is one of the most devisive presidents ever and he ran a horrible bitter campaign
More than half the country disagrees with you. And they went to the polls on Tuesday to say so.
You've been discredited, begolfing. Your whole campaign on here was a catastrophic disaster.
liberal drivel - reverse economic disparities and curb climate change,
from story: "In doing so, he was echoing Richard Nixon’s “Southern strategy” of attracting votes by playing on racial resentments." In fact, every GOP presidential candidate starting with Goldwater has sucked up to white racial animosity as part of their electoral strategy.
Wasn't that what the Stimulus was for - shovel ready projects? Where did the money go?
