John Kerry should be secretary of state

Senator John Kerry deserves to be the next secretary of state because he is the best person for the job.

The longtime Massachusetts senator who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has the background and experience required for the nation’s top diplomatic post. He has also been a good and loyal soldier for President Obama.

Kerry is absolutely the better choice for Secretary of State. The president should recognize that the very last thing the public wants to see is a needless confirmation battle over his friend Ms. Rice (who does not even compare to Kerry on credentials for the SoS job.) The stock market is sinking again as the beltway Nero's continue to fiddle away with the political posturing.

He should be, but this is not a politically sagacious move for the President to make. I understand Kerry's loyalty to the administration and the desire to reward him, but not at the expense of democrat control in the Upper Chamber. We've played the "special election" game before and it did not turn out well for Democrats. In the tenuous and divisive atmosphere of the Beltway today, removing Kerry is far too risky a proposition. There are a number of other qualified candidates available and the President, citing practicality and political expediency needs to chose one of them. It's not all about Kerry, and it shouldn't be. It's about country and party and no one should know that better than both the President and Kerry himself.

I agree. I hate the thoughts of going thru another Senatorial special election like the last one. I actually think the law should be changed back to the appointing & then election in the next general election. I think the Special Election route is too short a time to get to know enough about the candidates & that is how an obsecure state senator was able to get elected. I think it was largely a vote agains Coakley who is not a well liked AG. And after we got to know Brown better & where he stands on the issues we found he was on in tune with the majority of Mass voters \

I think having a confirmation hearing with Susan Rice would be grand political theater. She would be grilled about that Sunday, where she was put forth as a puppet to lie to the public. Of course, no one in the media cares. But if she was grilled, the media would be forced to cover it. And the whole incompetence of the Obama administration would be on full display. I do not think she will get the nomination, for this reason. If Kerry gets it, Scott Brown can run again, and Joan can go back into attack mode.

You're on here spreading rose petals every day, of course.

I sense your sadness about the recent election. Your identification with Senator Brown is almost palpable. Are politics down in the other "Commonwealth" so boring and uneventful that you can't refrain from commenting on the next race in a state that you deserted and clearly hate? Since Senator Brown is a self-professed moderate and your many, many, many posts indicate that you are not, what do you find so compelling about his prospects for future employment by the people of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts?

Be careful what you wish for Mr. President.  The Armed Sevices committee will certainly be "going after" you on this one.  I'm sure Obama will have an epiphany that Ms. Rice is not the best choice.  Was she echoing the White House line or not?  Either way, it's not good.  Your lie or her ignorance?  And Joan Vennochi's reasoning for the elevation of John Kerry is priceless.  That loyal soldier line sounds an awful lot like the ol' boy network that Dems love to rail against.  ....and let the swiftboating begin.

This is about Scott Brown not Susan Rice. Guess why the Republicans are blustering and pushing Kerry.

I think that Congreesman Tierney would be a much better choice for Sec. of State. He knows how to keep secrets.

How about Joe3 for either State or Defense, since he's now had experience as a representative (ok, representative elect)?

Sour grapes, much?

Among his other faults, incredible is an incredible racist. He makes such comments quite regularly. His opinion is of no interest.

It is unfortunate that the Good Senator was not a model soldier during the Vietnam War. Not very honest then was he? Ask the Vietnam Vets. He is not worthy of such a high post. However O`Bama will choose him anyway What the heck does he care about Integrity.

The Swift Boat Veterans were so disreputable that Richard Nixon kicked them out of his office?  It wasn't until Karl Rove needed a 3rd party group to slime Kerry that anyone took them seriiously.  Look it up.

Obama wants Rice or Kerry . . . while neither is considered appropriate choices.

But who cares_ Americans consider Axlerod appropriate as a, "Presidential Advisor."

I do not think Rice will get confirmed

Why does the President need to risk a Senate seat just to put an empty suit into the cabinet. Nominate Rice. Stand behind her. Make the opposition seem weak.
